Not all cars imported are rebuilt to LHD.

In Holland the numberplates stay with the car, in Belgium the owner has its own plates.

But this car is Dutch...

I presume that RDW would not replace the chassisnumner, when they thought it was not right.

--I too checked the chassis number and confirm Ade's statement  ,the car is definately Phaeton  S2  the rear end  shows that and also the front end  spare wheel holder= is this for the chassis or the upperside?

I just said the number belongs to a melos, didn't say it was a melos. However the facts remain as stated.

I can contact the last recorded keeper in the clubs records and ask him, see what he has to add.

It would be interesting to see the chassis without the outer shell.

It may have a Melos chassis number on it but I highly doubt its a Melos chassis. The Melos and Phaeton S3/4 are quite a bit longer and also wider (I think) so the S2 body work would not fit and it also has the Triumph front suspension

I wonder what has happed to the car.

How did it end up in Holland, after all it has been to the RDW ( the Dutch version of DVLA).

And where did the upperhalf came from, if the chassis is a melos?

Dave, the number stamped into that chassis DOES belong to a melos, it wasn't casual observation. I have it on the database.

The body parts DONT fit.

Melos' had leaf springs.

the chassis is likely to be a S2 chassis adrian as i am sure i saw the leaf springs under the rear of the car, and the body shape dont look like a S3, so it couldn't be a melos chassis they are different enough that the S2 body parts wouldn't fit. a more likely explanation is that a melos chassis number has been applied to a S2 chassis. when though, is a question worth looking into.

Is it possible that the car is originally an S3 as they are contemporary to Melos's and had a "M" prefix given to it by the factory, and then at a later date the details were transferred to an S2 (unregistered ebay car?) because they are better proportioned cars and are easier to convert to a "7" replica?

I don't think that body belongs on that chassis.
