Finally happy with the transplant, goes really well, starts good, the MT gearbox is superb, the home made prop is doing its job. NOW, to find something to slip the engine/box into. And to alter the induction side of things. Rolling shell required ?

Would the alternator fit above the inlet manifold? There must be quite a bit of space there because the carbs are quite tall. With the radiator in front of the original bodywork, then it might be good to re-site the brake servo and master cylinder higher too. The job looks do-able. Pity about the fibre rot, it would have been very special. Or crazy!

It would be fun in a race with that RS2000 :-)

Thats a good idea James, but I'm a bit fed up with sierra after the glass fibre falling apart fiasco. Chrome pipe has to be done Ade, its the "in" accessory, Posh Spice has some fitted too :-) V8 will go in with mods, see picture supplied.

Here is my solution to the V8 length issue. The picture is based on bull bars but the centre section is cut away and houses the radiator which is 4" further forward, to make room for the V8 behind. Just an idea.

So now you have it sorted Steve you want to take it all out again and drop it into something else? Poor old Sierra... suppose you want to lob the V8 in next

Chrome heater returns you say....Exhibit B then... Only bit of pipe I could find with 2 90 degree bends at right angles to each other at the time.

Fitting the MT to a pinto is a straight on job. Mine came from a Cossie 2 wd, only problem I had was with the clutch release bearing. you have to use a Cosworth one, read expensive! Splines lined up with the Pinto clutch and the bolt holes too The starter is meant to be a problem, I bought a new 10 tooth hi torque starter, and solved all the problems in one hit. The prop shaft came from a Land Rover, it has the right rubber doughnut and a sliding joint. So I chopped and welded it all together. The flange and the balancer on the end of the MT box is a very important part so I have been told, but some say it can be removed but the experts say no, so I left it. The gearbox mount is a fair way back from the original, but I only had a type2 box in the Sierra, which may account for some of that. I need an electronic speedo, have it, but just to lazy to figure out all the wiggly bits yet. All in all its a good set up. Could do with a shorter throw on the lever, quickshift is £40 I cant seem to warrant in the Sierra. Now approaching 2000 miles and all settled in, bit thirsty around town, will cruise in the naughty bits easily (sat nav surprised me how fast it would go !) It is a big box but fitted in the Sierra tunnel with a bit of space to spare.

A couple of questions: how much trouble was there in fitting the MT75 to the Pinto engine - did you have to swap clutches, spigot bearings, etc? How did you fix the propshaft to the funny output fitting on the box?

A Pinto will go nicely into a Melos :-)

I think the only issue is likely to be the gearbox width, but it might just mean a bit of surgery to the transmission tunnel (or maybe offset the engine to the passenger side an inch - passengers don't need legroom!
