"So my previous statement the longer the lever the less the effort you have to apply but the longer the distance is that needs to be traveled was indeed accurate. Personally I can live with extra travel at the lever as long as it works…"

"if you lengthen the lever on the drums you will need more effort as the ratio between the operating arm and drums will reduce........making it harder to get the required force to hold the brakes."

Sounds like a nightmare with the trailer! The axle casings aren't all that thick and are pretty old these days, it had a couple of pin prick holes at the rear. I did sort one out and it stayed dry until after a run so must be another higher up. Another thing to let you know is the fan switch on the rad is a Renault one the missus dad had in his spared. I was a bit concerned when I started using it the fan was on even after a run without stop start driving but I found out that the temp it switches is about 15 degrees less than the Vauxhall ones.

Well, Got the new MG Midget radiator cap today and it works. Thanks guys. I do think that I am getting water into the engine oil. So this looks like a major problem. I'll probably be in contact with you guys to get replacement parts. The old girl is starting to show her age.

Thanks guys for the welcome, Sure i will be asking a few questions in the not so near future. Yeah I purchased jasons Dutton on saturday. Really looking forward to having some fun with it. Nice to be able to see a bit of a story / history with it - i hope i can keep it going and do it justice. Aaron
