Last few jobs before the tour

Found the idle problem, accelerator diaphgram had a hole in, and the idle diaphgram is also a bit tired, so changed them. It had was the wrong size accelerator diaphgram fitted, so fitting the right one as got rid of the flat spot on accelerating.

I also found that the heater fan as a broken wire, which can't be fixed without taking the dash out first, and that's not going to happen ( Steve stop laughing).

But just to make up for that, looking through the bits box I found some…

Nearly MOT time!

Well looks like the car is just about ready for the MOT. Fitted a drivers side mirror today, fitted air filters and airbox, sorted the fuel pipes and filter and fitted the fuel gauge properly. Took it for a quick spin on private roads and all seems well apart from the throttle getting stuck and a high idle, adjusted the idle and fixed the spring so just tyre pressures left.

Fingers crossed for friday. Only thing that seems a bit dodgy is the handbrake. Carbs may need setting up as it… Continue

Steve's Dutton

Just called at Steve K's to see what progress as been made, and he's been very busy. Front suspensions on, rear's coming together. Looking good, not long before another Phaeton takes to the road.

Gearbox

I checked the gearbox and diff oil levels this evening, they were OK. So run the car while up on axle stands, and think the transmission noise is from the front main gearbox bearing, the noise is worse when in 3rd gear and under load. It doesn't jump out of gear, so I think I'm going to chance it for the Lakes tour and Stoneleigh. There's always Mr RAC.

Also put the new battery on, so now I can take her off life support from the RAV4.

Finally got the roll bar cover fitted

I finally managed to get the roll bar cover fitted, took a bit of cutting and choping, but it's on. I wanted to fit the high level brake light, but I had put then LED PCB somewhere safe, and so safe i could not find it, well not until I had put all the tools away, and covered the car up, now I found it in the safe place.

I Got my Weber's

Finally picked up a pair of webers, to go on the 1700. They are a bit untidy, couple of bits missing but little used. Plan is to rebuild them a long with the engine. Now need a manifold.

Mother's Day Treat

Picked up my Mother in the Dutton today, for a Mother's Day treat. Pushed her in legs akimbo, well she is 82 as she tell everyone she meets. Onto the Motorway, 60, 70, 80 Oh and we're low flying now,

Silence from the passenger.

20 miles on, and leave the motorway and hit the country lanes, hard into the bends, Oh we're pushing hard now, still silence from my passenger.

Long straight in front down to hump back bridge, AIRBORNE, and there it is after all these miles as a…

More life found in Dutton!

Another 2 jobs done, and I have found our pet spider living in the bottom of the battery compartment, she's lived down there for the last few years. Everytime I lefted the bonnet there was always a web across the cables. she as now been evicted, and with less weight Daisy could be quicker off the mark.

Any way back to the job's list.

I have managed to sort the wiring out for the spot lamps these have not been connected since the small loom fire back when I replace the engine…

Alien life form found in Dutton

Well it looked like something from another planet, or perhaps it where life on earth started, in a Dutton washer bottle.

& years of filth built up in the bottle, and grown all the way up the outlet pipe. I can tell you something it doesn't taste nice at all. Manage the to blow the pipe through with the jets removed, and I have washers again.

Who are Ya?

I was on the M62 East bound this morning, and in front of me was a Black Phaeton I think S3 with a long hard top. Don't think your on here but maybe somebody knows you. I blow the horn and waved, (probably he thought who's this nutter in the Rav 4) He pulled off onto the A627M towards Oldham/Rochdale at 09:05am

Back out on the road again

Still needed to shock the old girl back to life, going to have to get the battery replaced.

But everything else worked well. I have a bit of a doubt on the gearbox it is making noises in all gears and on over run, at first I thought it maybe the diff, but the more you listen the more I am convinced it the box.

anyway what a good shake down drive around town. Got back and gave her a once over, oil, lights, water even filled the washer bottle. Decided to clean the K & N and…

Scottish Inmates ??

Hi Fellow Duttoneers,

I read with interest the exploits of the Northern duttoneers and their regular meetings, this makes me wonder if there's enough, ( out of our 45 members) up here in Scotland to create something similar for us more Northern Duttoneers... lol

It just stopped working

There you are 1st fine day for a run, thought good idea to pick up new Duttoneer Steve who as taken over Garys' project, and give him a blast up to Salmesbury via Rivington. So met up with Martin and off we go, up in to Rivington and the country road. There was black ice all over the place, which made for an interesting drive, even managed to slide down a hill on the stuff, only to come to a sign at the bottom of the hill that stated DANGER MUD ON THE ROAD (should have read FROZEN mud on the… Continue

Just given to old girl a run

I thought as the clouds parted, I'd give the old girl a run. Tipical neglected for 2 month, she made me work for my enjoyment (story of my life).

The battery was barely able to light the dash. Now where are the jump leads, after a search I found them in the shed hung on the wall, behind the bike's. After a few choice words most not repeatable, and balancing things like a circus clown the were free.

Now all that reminded was to move the Rav4 onto my neighbours drive (Lucky again as… Continue

Is it just me, or am I seeing the motorist's atempt at saving the planet?

For weeks now on my travels around the North, I have noticed more and more cars and vans with only one brake light, and in some cases one brake light and the high level light out as well (10 today in a trip to Conwy and back to Bolton).

Is this an atempt at saving the planet?

Or is this some new Tin Top secret CULT, and this is how they identify each other?

It's not hard to see if you look in the rear veiw mirror when at the lights you can see the reflection of all three… Continue

Luck or No Luck

Can you believe it I mend the Dutton, the sun comes out, I take the roof off, the phone ring, now my Mother's broken her hip.
Roof back on, and off to the hospital, weekend over. Never mind it's a bank holiday next weekend, so there's proably rain already booked for that.
Going to change my name to Lucky!!!
