So, MOT sorted by the skin of its teeth, loads to do before tomorrow morning, panic has set it due to a little mishap with the pedal box...

How many of you fitted metal spreader plates between the pedal box and the bulkhead? Here is something for those of you with pinto engines to think about.

I didn't see this coming 8 years ago when I re built it... The holes are supposed to be there... the crack around the edge is not.

Seems the proximity to the manifold has weakened the fibreglass of the tub a little

A metal spreader plate on the inside would have eased the load on the area and this may not have been quite so severe. This is going to be a fun evening..

my son is using Nanking or something on his super Saab, reckons they are ok for a budget tyre, over 300hp so must be OK for our trolleys, his words not mine.

I had Goodyear on the Saab, went well but wore horrid. 6500 and I had to change them, but it does chuck out a lot of horses, put the backs on the front for now and new Avons on the back, must check the fronts now. I had Toyo Proxys on the Sierra no problem but you have to drive to the conditions, well that's what everyone else says, innit :-)

Changed last year to Good Year Duragrips, they changed the car completely. The old tyres were great in the dry and slight damp, but heavy rain she would try to kill you.

These Duragrip are awesome in all conditions

fronts are a539's - sadly no longer available :(

I know James... top quality road tyres on one pair and budget crap on the other. But they have a good amount of tread, only four years old and actually grip reasonably well. I reckon you'd get a full set of four for less that the two Toyos I just bought.

Not A059's... I'll have a look later, not important enough to go outside...

Is it the compound or the tread pattern though? I've had a variety of tyres on the legerra over the years, Dunlop's were good, 205/60/13 Hero's were interesting on the back... Currently using Yokohama A059's on the front (I think) and 'Stunners' on the back (my excuse is they were already on the rims)
