Today I have been stripping the brackets off the diff and axle casing, think they were welded by "blind phew" plus they were all over the place, not in line odd size holes and not square to each other. Thought things were going to well.

Steve if you go A series get a late 1300 Morris marina /Ital they were the strongest a series made with screw on canister oil fitters virtually a Cooper s engine block and great to tune also the gearbox was triumph believe it or not so you could use the whole unit. Cheers Andy

The old gent who I got this car from, told me, and gave me the paperwork, that this back axle has been fully overhauled and only done maybe 60 miles ! so yes that may be reused.

Cortina and escort rears are a touch to wide so BMC would be the best option.

The Anglia Van axle was specified because it is wider than the Anglia saloon, but when used on the B type still needs spacers, so it is not ideal unless you happen to have one.  From memory the spacers on mine were 3/4" or 1" each side, so while not as strong as the Ford, a Morris 1000 axle might be a good fit.

Go A series keep it original and unless you can find a ford anglia van rear axle stick with BMC. I would however revert to triumph front set up cheers Andy

1600 MX5 engine and box is a good unit. You'd probably need to go to a Ford back axle. Still think I'd stick with the BMC running gear just to be different.

Having  two Mr K is that just  in case you F one up ??

I'm leaning heavily towards MX5, because I just happen to have a 1600 engine and box with the electrics stood in the garage and one on the drive.
