Not much help to you really Daryl, all the cars I have seen over the years with Triumph rear ends I have walked away from !
Might be worth asking the triumph sports car club they do some very good uprated stuff for the front assembly so there might be stuff for the rear ?
Modern spring, better locating kit camber adjuster ???
The other obvious upgrade would be to the notoriously floppy Dutton chassis
Add some triangulation and spread the suspension loadings
The firmer your chassis even if the suspension is less than perfect you will get more reliable/uniform handling characteristics and you have a better base line to start your improvements from
wow thats a big engine for a phaeton! I gave up thinking about a V8 in the series 3 as the gearbox tunnel is part of the main tub its quite tight even for a pinto and 5speed box. Not seen a series 2 is the chassis similar to the series 1?
I have gone onto automatics for my main cars as I have a problem with my left foot thats slowly getting worse and this might eventually limit my use of the Dutton. Off to the MOT station just hope the tester rembers not to go over any speed bumps when doing the road test (LSD).
Hi Daryl thanks for the hello :). The V8 should strictly be "have owned". It was in a S1 but I bought it without SVA in 2005 and with law changes decided to sell on the bits to other S1 owners. I do still have the engine its out of a P6 rover so if you know anyone who wants a good engine before it gets converted into a coffee table let me know. the pinto is in a phaeton 3 that I have had since 2007 and the car is on the cover page of an old Dutton Torque. Just sorting it out for this years MOT its a good car and I am hoping to get out more in it. I used to belong to Andys old Dutton page and there were pictures of the S1 and S3 on there back in 2005/2007. Keep in touch and thanks again for the welcome, Barry
Daryl, strange you should say that, the guys in work put a photo of Noddy in his Melos with my face superimposed on our fridge! Mine was yellow but I took the body to the paint shop today and by Friday it will be black!
I found a loose nut on the intake manifold. Tightening that and adjusting the timing has helped but it still not running perfect. I'm considering getting a new set of distributor wires although mine look like their new even though they must be at least quite old.
