I've just heard that there are over 800,000 Polish people working in the UK and the Polish authorities are worried that the financial support they give to Poland is going to have an adverse effect... So much of this refurendum has been made by 'working class' people who (rightly or wrongly) have based their decision on immigration.

I honestly think that the politicians need to back off now and regroup, stop trying to stab each other in the back and get on with doing what we put them there to do, Its should not be a political power struggle, it's about doing whats best for the country based on a decision made by the general populous. Maybe if they spent more time working for the 'country' and less time talking and slagging each other off then we wouldn't be in such a mess.

Ever watched the parliment channel ? (i've been off sick for 6 months and pretty bored) most of the time less than 50% of the seats have occupants and some of them are blatantly asleep. It wouldn't be allowed in a 'normal' work place, why is it considered 'normal' in the house of commons?

I am surprised it is that close, near on 50-50, not really what I would call a majority, but there it is, like it or hate it, we have gone down a road, over a cliff, whatever. As Ade says, this is a referendum, no doubt there will be some unpleasant tweeks coming, and some unpleasant wake up calls as well. I have my spot booked in the subway, even got the cardboard box and plain brown paper bag, be seeing you !

Well I voted out in the end but it would have been in if Brussels had given David Cameron some thing worth having. The EU just see Britain as a cash cow.

Of course this isnt a 'law', they could still stall for years but that would amount to political suicide. If we had voted to stay by the same majority then we would be equally divided. The 'country' has voiced it's opinion and thats all it is at present, just our opinion.

I stayed up until 4.30 ish watching most of the country turn blue on that stupid floor map. Higher turn out than a general election I think mainly due to the fact that, just for once, people felt like they could make a difference. It's now being turned into a political discussion, party politics taking over and there will be a whole load of people pointing the finger and saying things that are just deconstructive as usual.

just read this, written by an engineer friend of mine: I am not usually a political animal but I am worried for the future.

Unless we can get trade and workable immigration process deals done quick I fear for a number of industries.

The only reason Nissan, Toyota and Honda are in the uk is that they can sell cars to the rest of Europe without import taxes, will they stay if this changes.
Where will the next generation of aircraft come from, Airbus is a eu consortium, jaguar, tornado and typhoon are all eu collaboration, U.K. Can't afford to design and build the next generation on their own, buy USA ?
As for agriculture/nhs/hospitality, until we get realistic about personal ability (not everyone should/can got to university, we need a unskilled, skilled and proffessional workforce, all of which are equally important) and that there is a mix of skills and capability and therefore people needs to accept that manual labour is a valid and valuable occupation we will require imported labour willing to do these jobs for the foreseeable future.

IMO this is all compounded by having a parliament made up of career politicians that have no commercial or industrial experience compounded by the fact that les than 10 mp's have science or engineering qualifications. In the future, without Eu support, we will not be able to rely on the finance and service industries and the sooner the government realises that to grow the economy we need to buy raw material, make stuff with them and sell them outside the uk in order to prosper.

The next big question is do we negotiate to stay in the single market (and therefore undermine the 'independence' that the country has voted for) or leave it. I think we need another referendum to chose between those two options because they are very different. It will be difficult to decide that choice because there is no 'good' option, only bad and very bad.
