So, MOT sorted by the skin of its teeth, loads to do before tomorrow morning, panic has set it due to a little mishap with the pedal box...

How many of you fitted metal spreader plates between the pedal box and the bulkhead? Here is something for those of you with pinto engines to think about.

I didn't see this coming 8 years ago when I re built it... The holes are supposed to be there... the crack around the edge is not.

Seems the proximity to the manifold has weakened the fibreglass of the tub a little

Well a lot actually :)

A metal spreader plate on the inside would have eased the load on the area and this may not have been quite so severe. This is going to be a fun evening..

I have added chrome strips to her this week. Looking better all the time then when I first bought her.

lol, Those wheels would look pretty good on my old girl. She still has her original wheels that were on her when I got her in 2004. Still not a mark on them or a spot of rust on my old girl. :-)

I also have a staggered set of allycats in 6 and 7 x 13, they will be done black and polished, a set of 6 x 13 MS compomotives, black centres with polished rims and a few others to play with.

These are 14x7 with either 0 or 6mm offset, can't remember, I also can't remember where I put the two other centre caps :(

Originally I did plan to restore the gold but found it hard to match the finish on the 'spare' even with a machine polisher so will probably stick with the grey, might even go darker (but not black) maybe ford 'sea grey' like they use on the focus and mondeo. I have lacquered the first two as I was pleased with the finish, its not perfect but will withstand reasonable scrutiny.

I'd like to be able to remove the spacers from the green one completely as I'm convinced the arc of the front wheels causes fouling.

I also have new upper ball joints, new short brake pipes, new braided rear flexi, and possibly a change of rear brakes from mk1 to mk2 if time allows.

I've also bought an extension lead to fit my phone so I can record audio from between the exhausts instead of the phones inbuilt mic. Hopefully you won't be able to hear the cam followers rattling so much...

I like those, what size are they?

Do you plan the Alleycat Gold finish?

Nice looking wheels there, Ade.

So, starting the 'touch ups' for 2017's events, cruises and general maintenance.

In the never ending quest for the 'right' wheels to fit this little beast I have prepped yet another set of rims. These were originally purchased to use on the Sierra but when the tyres started to crack I had them removed and started the clean up process. This is the end result.

If the photo has gone then its been deleted to save space.

These were originally off a Ginetta, found via retro rides. Two devoid of all paint, two still with gold coloured webs and the spare which was absolutely mint like it just came out of the box. This is one of the stripped ones, repainted in 'steel wheels' which will be neutral enough to match any of my cars. Not sure what rubber to fit as I was considering T1R Toyo's then I'd be stuck with no spare or risk having a directional spare on the wrong side of the car. Bidirectional tyres would be the answer but finding grippy ones is a pain.

Thats the way my original roof was made so I blindly copied it, now wish I had given it a bit more thought.

I'm looking at reversing the mechanism, pins on the roof, latches on the screen, all on the inside. I think if I make a retaining plate to fit where my latch is currently located but under the vinyl and also extend the fibreglass as a lip over the top of the screen frame before tucking the material under it. The sides are where mine leaks, just on the corners so that would have to be extended out a little too.

Ade: I like the idea of the windscreen wiper stop. My wiper regularly comes adrift by getting caught momentarily on the surround and slipping on the spindle, then on the next sweep it goes right over the edge!

I also notice that your roof fastenings are on the outside of your roof. Mine are on the inside of the vinyl but on top of the fibreglass edging piece.

Dave: what did Quantum do? Just for the record, mine leaks terribly.
