hydraulic clutch issue

took the dutton out for a quick blast on some private land , after some abuse the clutch peddle stayed alway down, hence no drive.

after about 10 mins the peddle returned to its normal position but was very soft, the car was a bitch to get in gear. any way crawled home.

now i dont have a clutch , the peddle is vey very soft , when u press the peddle the slave cylinder is not moving, i bled the system and no difference. put a new hydraulic pipe on as the other was a bit rough.

either or both....most likely the slave and i have had similar problems with a slave before. but the seals in the master cyl could be shot as well.....

Had a similar problem on my old mans MGF the other week, piston was sticking and not fully returning in the clutch master cylinder

Pete, on the MGF/ k series a sticky clutch is usually the actuator shaft where it passes through the bellhousing - steel shaft in an ally housing! I had to replace the one on the GTM, used a Mike Satur one that has a grease point built into it which solves the problem for good :-)

In this case it was the master cylinder, even with the pipe clamped there was lots of free travel before anything happened. Stripped the master cylinder and the piston wasn't fully returning, there was a bit of something stuck on it. Cleaned it up put it back together, bled it and job done :)
