Big heated debate today, bare steel shell, primer or filler first ? think we had 3 on each side of the debate, I won't call it an argument, but it was :-)) Luckily I went for the pasties before the language started, hillbillies, who'd have 'em ??

filler.

All the hot rod paint shops i've seen use a sealer coat first, then filler (bondo) then primer filler etc

OEM's degrease followed by an electrophosheric coating, any seam sealers etc would then follow before primer, basecoat and finally clear coat. If you don't seal the surface within minutes of degreasing then the metal starts oxidising and what ever you put on won't mean diddly squat. OEM's offer corrosion warrenties so its likely their processes work the best.

Just had custom painter around, biggest baddest Harley I've ever seen, prime it, fill it, prime it again. He picked fault with everything. :-))

He recommends an activator coat first, because it's bare steel.

Went down at 10 last night just to watch the expert at work. Two guys turned up, hitched up their own filters, regulators etc. And away they went, couldn't see much in the heated tent, but within two hours they had put on about 4 coats of various stuff. Being Aquila, they don't talk much so I didn't learn much :-((
