First place that needs repairing on chassis

Hi All.  Whilst out for a ride in the Melos today I was chatting to a chap about older cars in general ,when he asked me if I had repaired the chassis. This has now got me thinking ,as the chassis/frame work is only simple box section and around 30yrs old. Where is the most common place for the rot to start????

they rot......almost anywhere and nowhere. it depends what has been done to it in the past., but the chassis rails under the body seem prone to a fair bit of corrosion.

Had a bit of a poke around  this time last year when I first got her. But its not so easy on your back as the car lives outside all year round and the garage I work at wants £40 an hr for you to work on your own car in your own time !!!!      Thanks for the offer Pete :)  I will be taking her to http://www.sywellclassic.co.uk/ sywell piston and props show nr Northampton at the end of the month , never know if you go we may even bump in to each other  lol  ,  as its probably about time we met for a chat and a drink :)

First thing i did on mine was to strip it back to bare metal, and check how much corrosion there was,  ,it had been covered with about 5 coats of hammerite, dreadful stuff to remove, in the end it took an angle grinder with a 5" wire brush to get it off, but i'm glad i did, because it showed i had no rust on it,,,,,,, and a chassis number:)))))

i guess the earlier ones such as the B types used thinner gauge material and as a result rusted out more, , where do you draw the line between  repair and rebuilding a chassis by letting in mostly new sections?  

given the amount of problems we see on here with brackets not being correctly  located on factory built chassis's, it makes me wonder, were there any factory jigs to line up suspention fixings  to get them square?  prehaps  someone like Mr K could come up with a set of  jigs that would enable owners who have their chassis's stripped to cut off and put brackets in the right place, how much easier would that have been for you Legerra owners with your front wheel issues?
