Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Well i have been busy again, and made a new handbrake for my car. I used a lever from a Citroen AX I scrapped last year, and a single AX cable.

I had to make two brackets for the cable connections to connect the AX cable to the existing cables on the back of the drums, which will make it self balancing. the hand brake lever needed very little modification, requiring only the connecting strap to be modified for the deeper transmission tunnel. The AX also has two cables connected to it via a yoke, which i cut up to make the modified strap.

The new strap to connect to the bottom of the handbrake lever.

Above you can see the connector for the inner cable to the N/S drum, the AX cable is unmodified and just unhooks from the bracket,

this bracket below connects to the cable outer and has a link, via a bottle screw to the cable to the O/S drum

and some more pictures.

and here is some of the hand brake inside the car, the lever is sited well forward on the transmission tunnel and slightly at an angle to make it more comfortable to use,

and another

and finally

it works very well, it is much more comfortable for Sandra and the handbrake pulls equally on both drums automatically now.

no i had to reposition it once already, the closest the gear lever gets is in second gear when the lever gets to within less than 1/2" from the nose of the handbrake lever when it's off.
