Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Tonight I thought I would remove my broken crank pulley ready for changing the cam belt.  Used a puller as the pulley would no move.  Kept tightening the puller, next thing the remainder of pulley perimeter pulled off, leave the very center hub stuck on the end of the crank, no edges to get the puller on.  Thoughts on how to remove this hub bit.  I am proposing to drill a hole parallel to the crank though the wall of the hub, then hit it with a chisel to split the hub.  Do you think this will work?  Or other suggestions?

That might work but it might be difficult to drill in situ.

One alternative might be the application of a bit of heat. I don't know if you could just do a bit of welding to heat it. Obviously you'd not want to end up welding it to the crank, but you could get quite a lot of heat in very quickly to expand the pulley before the heat soaked into the crank. Sometimes a bit of heat will break the joint.

Or alternatively just hit it with a hammer!

Yep, that'll work. Sometimes the whack it mode is needed. Done what your planning many times with huge nuts immersed in salt water. Go for it. :-))

another simple way is to drill at the key way at right angles to the crank 3 or 4 small holes then crack it with a sharp chisel.

Steve, I am thinking I will try the holes at right angles to the crank and split it.

How come they are always in a bitch of a place ? can you see the key way Dave??
