slick 50

thinking about my old engine and wondering if i should add some slick 50 at next oil change. iv used it before but it one of those things you never really know if it works or not.....your thoughts pls gents.

I always use STP at an oil change, works well for my X flow.

Here in the U.S.A. I have used STP in the past on high mileage engines. It worked well but keep in mind that it does increase the thickness of the oil. This is probably the reason for its effects. Slick50 probably has the same effect. I see no reason to use it on low mileage engines.

There is a guy at all the shows that explains why its good, puts a load on a spinning bearing and it soon siezes. Then he applies the "magic" ingredient and hey presto it runs forever. Is it a con?? only a true oil man would really know. My old dad swore by STP, he used to rebuild gearboxes and axles for people, back in the 60's, always used it to assemble, then put a drop in the oil. Never had no come backs. Though nowadays, good oil is good oil, I think :-)) I use STP in my Sprint engine, just because I do, its an old motor running 20/50, it does no harm, I hope, belt and braces.

I have just put slick 50 in another car of mine.

I did a bit of looking into it before. There seems to be a couple of different camps people fall into.

Those who claim it wrecks engines without any proof, compare it to products made 20 years ago.

Seems to have quietened down the engine I put it in, but I agree it would seem pointless putting it in a new engine
