Pete, the GT box was essentially the 2000e box with the later single rail selector and ally tailshaft housing, was used in late MK2 contina and V. early MK3's. A version with pants 1st gear ratio made it into the sierra. Would be worth seeing what you've already got before spending beer tokens :-))

No worries Dave, just thought i'd ask. Cheers

Sorry Pete the box is not for sale, but like BV say's the ratio's are very close in the GT or sport box. see GS escorts at Widnes usually has all types for sale a reasonable money.

I thought the box I had might not be up to much more power, thinking 120ish bhp

Comment by Big Vern on April 30, 2012 at 18:45

Pete, Check the ratio's in the box you have, it could be a late GT box which had virtually the same ratio's as 2000e

You interested in selling the 2000e box dave?

My spare engine is 1700 which is sitting in my sons Sierra at the moment, and I have a 2000e box somewhere in the shed. The van box was a put me on after last lakes tour saw my 4 speed sport box scream very loudly in 2nd and 3rd, this one now has a noisey 3rd, so it could be time to look in the shed. I my self don't like the type 9 like you say redundant 1st, give me a 4 speed any day.

On the 1300 GT Mike that was a slightly modded engine, and better carbs used in the Sport, GT and 1300E

Neither the 1300 or 1600 really have the grunt to pull the 5th gear in the type 9 5 speed unless you have a diff like 4.44 which generally makes the 1st in  the 5 speed redunent. Better to go for and old school 2000e box which has closer ratios. As for 1300 vs 1600. No substitute for 'cubes' 1700 with big valve head:)

The diff is a 3:89, the box at the moment is a 4 speed escort van, very quick bottom end, top end flattens out around 85-90 but it will push through the a ton with a good wind behind.

I once had a 1300 mk2 Cortina bored to 1340 tweeked head, running a DCD weber with ram air charger on it, again very quick street sleeper, ran very rich round town but get some pressure in the pipe it leaned off and performed very well.

Check out the Honnister video, that will make your mind up. I love my crossflow, it works hard, does about 30 mpg, soon to be on Bike carbs!
