Hi Paul Welcome to the site.
  • Dave Adams

i speak to tom fairly regularly via skype his skype name is m-orlog, i am sure he wont mind you having it. He is in the process of making a copy of the bodywork and making a new Phaeton chassis to fit it to. he has an old melos in very poor condition which will donate it's details to the new car.

  • Dave Adams

I spoke to tom last night, he says it is ok if you want to contact him. Skype is free to use, my Skype address is dave-adams you can message him using Skype as well.
  • Tom Ger_Phaeton S2

Here in Germany it is just as uncomfortable as you in England.

    brrrrrrrrrr ...... it is cold;-)

What do you mean by "dash" the body?

It would be an advantage if you send me the images.

    Wich Jörg do you mean?

The best, if you speak with me over scype! My name there is "m-orlog"

    Best wishes

    Tom

Paul, I sympathise... the M25 M14 etc are a bit flat and slow for a dutton. There are some nice lanes up Stevenage way but they probably all have humps and speed cameras by now.

  • Dave Taylor

Paul the good news is The Northern Duttoneers are bringing the Road Show to Malvern Hills in September 2012, and if things go well we will be doing a tour of Morgan Cars. No excuses come and play.

Don't forget you are always welcome to come with us to the Lakes in Spring.

  • John Allen

    Hi Paul,

Thanks Paul! My Dutton is not on the road at the moment, needs a complete rebuild! Great site though.there's definitely some good info there. Ace Cafe meet up sounds great! would Love to see some other Duttons!

And to think that Dave Taylor en famille are all heading North tomorrow onto the unsalted sheep strewn narrow moorland roads of Cumbria. Ah well best break out another beer and throw another log on the fire.
  • Steve Kerswell

I wonder what Diff you are running? may be a higher ratio would be a cheaper option.

  • Steve Kerswell

Next silly question :-) wheel diameters?

  • Steve Kerswell

Hah, noisy, sorry thought it had ran out of steam, I found that sidescreens alone make hell of a difference. I am experimenting with small quaterlights, but struggling to get the angle to stay fixed when at speed.

Thanks Paul. Talking to Ade tonight about previous problem of rocking movement of the S2 bonnet which in effect resulted in a lot of bodywork wear. Originally I had a 28/36 ? Weber with pancake filter through the bonnet and the rocking of the bonnet on acceleration and braking wore the bonnet around the carb. This problem has disappeared as the hole is no more as I have now used Twin 40 side draft dellortos . The top chassis members at the front which the bonnet sits on I can probably pad with something and I was considering padding between the aluminium side panels and the inner wing then fitting with a dzus clip. The issue always seems to be the front swing opening bracket and the 4 bolt connection either side of the grille which I can't stop rocking and still make it look neat. My son is a design engineer at Leyland Daf and he has suggested that by using the adhesive strips they use for fixing the cab roofs to the cab this will bond the full length of the front bracket each side to the fibreglass bonnet but I'm not sure. Finally how do you neatly fasten the bonnet at the windscreen end. It was originally sprung clips but these gave a flexible fixing which I am trying to avoid as I am trying to get solid fixings. Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks for the information Paul it's an invaluable confidence builder when you are stuck and going around in circles to be shown a way forward. Will look in detail and get back to you. Once again many thanks
  • Aidan Flack

Thanks Paul, that sounds like a plan, I've just gotta get the niggles sorted (random engine cutouts, new timing belt and water pump), will be good to go then
  • Aidan Flack

Sounds interesting, I often find the word extensive to be very closely linked to expensive, I hope it wasn't for you.
I have seen the Santa Pod info, I think it is my weekend to work though so unfortunately can't commit unless something changes closer to the time so I can wriggle out of work
  • Jim (across the pond) Adamek

Sounds like a great deal Paul. I'm ready!

  • Dave Taylor

Pheaton for a 57 Bel air, or i'll even settle for a 55

  • Jim (across the pond) Adamek

lol, Finding a 50's Bel-air for sale is almost like looking for a Dutton in Florida. They go for around $50,000. Don't need another Phaeton. Very few compare to mine. She is a truly great and unique Phaeton with those front wings.  I just love my old girl and still cannot believe that I found her on a used car lot over here 12 years ago. Now I think a good Melos would go along great with her and a Harley seems like a fair trade.

    Finally...

  • Bert Nieuwenhuizen

Asshole's garage is where you feel at home, where you can admire your bike(s) , car(s),

pictures of what you like apart from mechanical thinks, where you can relax, where you can practice "What happens in the garage stays in the garage", where you can use all the tools you bought because you thought you needed them, where you can escape from what you want to escape from and a lot more.

That is my first, preliminary definition.

    Bert

So, no problem but a blessing!!
