Hav'nt got a decent photo of Sierra yet, so i thought a pic of one of the kittens we have fostered for the RSPCA would do as a sub,. I like your cats by the way.
As you proberbly know Adrian , its not too hard to lever a tyre off or on, even i can do it, done it today infact , but its breaking the bead seal of an old tyre thats the hard part. Best to get friendly with your local garage so they will do that bit for you with the machine.
The off road guys recon the Deflex were pants, failing in no time flat 6 months tops but then they are offroading. Have seen a deflex bush cut in half and it was like an aero bar in side - full of bubbles. When I contacted Floflex, same address as deflex and similar website the guy I spoke to couldn't tell me what the hardness values for the MX5 bushes were and I was of the distinct impression he didn't know what shore hardness was.
I have Powerflex on the GTM but TBH they're not holding up to well, bit soft and the ones in the dampers have gone already :-(
Will be using Superflex only in future - Have used the many times over the years and nev er been disapointed other than the cost. You could give Chris Witor a try at superflex see if theres a club discount available, couldn't hurt.
As for getting a list up might be better to list what vehicles the parts come from then let people choose where to get them from?
Hi Adrian,
You will have seen the question raised by Francis regarding his Yellow Melos with XR3i engine.
I have no issue in responding to Francis but have no idea of the issue. I put a search for Yellow Melos into the site but the only search item that came up seems to relate to a DVLA issue Would appreciate any information you may have or any questions you have for Francis in order to get clarification of the problem.
Simply a naturally intuitive interpretation of the philosophy adopted by the majority of the members of the almost spiritual experience of being a member of this erudite organisation. Never mind the dictionary havemotivated endeavour also read the Haynes manual for the Cortina 1600E which formed the basis for my S2, read it many times, still at times a complete bloody mystery.
Just for clarity, it should have read "........ having been motivated, by Adrian's extensive technical knowledge, have endeavoured to read the Haynes manual......... " must remember to read through before pushing send.
1600 X/Flow ade, as far as i can find out it should have a 32 DGR, but its been running a 32/36 DGAV which is an auto choke but i converted it to manual.
Thought the linkages were the same for Fords.i could and am quite often wrong, anyway its the type where the 90 degree bent rod goes through the spring clip, hope that helps.
Hey! That'd be great. Damaged might not be the right word. It's more like corrupted on purpose? I attached you a couple of low quality pictures. The car came with a spare 7 nose, a pair of calmshell wings and two rear fenders, which were originally planned to replace the distorted parts. But I don't really want it to be a wannabe 7. Yet, it was planned to replace some parts by aluminium (like aluminium panels) and create some kind of individual design. But I'd be more happy to see that original Dutton face on her. Long story. To answer your question, it'd be especially front parts I'd be looking for.
lol, Since this is my only car I drive the old girl all the time. Luckily the police have not noticed my light problems. Turn signals work now. Brake lights are next.
hi Adrian, will try to get some pics uploaded when i can, i was a member of this group a few years ago when i first picked up the Legerra but not had much to do with it lately due to work/wife commitments but i'm determined to get her rebuilt and on the road this year. I have just about all the parts i need, i think, the only obvious missing part at the moment is the Dashboard but then i'm not too keen on the standard one anyway so will probably make my own one. I'm also not keen on the hardtop either. the dimensions just seem wrong somehow so once shes on the road i might look at a redesign there too.
Hi Adrian. Thanks for the welcome. My estate is complete and running (although it has just run out of MOT - waiting to see if I can get it mot exempt). I’ve owned it for around 9 years. The drophead is a project that I picked up late last year. It is complete but has stood for at least 25 years. It’s slowly coming together as time allows, I will try and add a build up thread for it at some point.
The idea behind me joining the club before buying a Dutton/project was to gain some knowledge and hopefully some good advice. I enjoyed my time with the Phaeton back in the 80s but always wanted the earlier cycle type wings and wished I take up that option when I bought the kit new. I'm now returning to this interest with little to no understanding of how rare my ideal Dutton is to track down, I'm just hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I make an impulse buy. If required I am very open to picking up a project and building the car to my specification.
Adrian, many thanks for the kind welcome. Yes pdf copy would be great - no panic though.
Good to hear there is a Leggy specialist about as I am sure there will be much advice requested in the future. This is a long term plan for me and good knowledge and background research I have always found to be essential and helps in reducing any silly mistakes.
i will send over some details on chassis number and engine number if this is ok.
i had signed up on the dutton owners club site and paid the membership fee but didn’t hear anything from that site. Is this site linked or is it not current as many posts seem very old.
planning two new fixes for the next few weeks and would welcome any tips.
Have you had any experience of trying to fix the sagging doors, passenger side is worse so I would like to tackle this one first.
Also have put on the black vinyl roof and quite like the extra headroom it gives. Plan to put in some flanged rubber bushes in the front fixing holes in the frame. Do these standard hoods always come with two fixing positions as it seems to want to lift slightly in the middle at the front especially with excessive wind flow while driving. Extra waterproofing trim maybe useful and will consider this last.
thks for the photos they really help to understand the principle and your explanation is very good. I understand what the fix does and the cause of sagging - this may take a bit of time to sort out and especially handling welding with it all assembled. Bit of planning needed my side - I will be in touch when I am close to starting for a final check so no balls ups.
Adrian. Are you able to send the Legerra build plans by any chance. I am just about to get into some ground work and have planned a few fixes 1. Chassis strengthening. 2. Radiator move to eliminate hose fretting 3. Roof bolt hole fix for hard top and soft top. 4. Some bodywork repairs at doors and rear small prang issue.
Quick question - does the bonnet come off easy without damage. I need to take a covering off to see how it works but this is just purely advice on this issue at present.
Cheers Jordy
Thanks very much for the Welcome gents. Its took me a while to work out how to reply (much easier when on desktop view).
For those who havent come across me i have series 1 legerra with a 2.0 Zetec bought it about 18 months ago after having a good look around Adrians at Stoneleigh.
Ripped the 1600 X flow out as it had loads of crank endfloat and put a 2 0 Zetec blacktop and a mazda rx8 6 speed box.
Proceeded to take it on a 2200 mile tour around Europe and managed to leave me bonnet unclipped and it wrecked the windscreen.
Currently converting it from bike carbs and Nodiz to run on the O.E ford ecu i was quite impressed with Danny Bosworths oe fuel injection setup.
Barr with me i will update the progress as i get make my way through it. Whats the easiest way to post photos on here
Thanks for the welcome! My friend and I bought this as a winter project and are wondering if we have the only one? We usually are working on MG's and Triumphs' and would like to have a Caterham or Lotus 7 but, don't have the funds.
