Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Hi all,

I have cut a section out of one of the chassis rails so the type 9 box will fit. I have drilled through the rail either side and bolted the mount up, see below

Obviously I now need to put some strength in. I am planning on welding another rail in behind the existing one and then tieing the original one in to it like so. Excuse naff drawings!

Will this be sufficient? I have some 40x40x2.5 box to use

That looks like a good idea.    Dont forget to think about how you will take the box out (if needed)  Engine out then Gearbox  or Engine and Box in one lump.  Now is the time to think about these things. :-)

Sorry Pete this was the picture I mean't to upload last night (please excuse the electronic crayoning) :-))))))

Going to order some angle iron this evening so I can sort the box mount. I am looking at 40mm x 40mm same as the box and 3mm thick, will that be sufficient or should I go 5mm?

3mm is over the top the chassis rails are about 1.5mm on the larger box sections i have used steel about 1.5mm thick except where i have joined the rail accross the cut out gap. Locosts only use1mm thick tube and they are very stong.

I know the box section has thinner walls but wasn't sure the L shaped angle iron would be as strong hence planning on getting thicker
