Anti Roll Bar

Does any one know if an anti roll bar has been used on an S2 Phaeton with Triumph Spitfire front suspension?  if so what was if from?

Spitfire Herald or vittesse ones should fit though you'll have to make your own chassis mounts. Why would you need one when the front is already stiff enough?

ARB's need to be of spring steel so you can't just use a bit of old bar and a torch :-I

Anti roll bars were an option with dutton they have advantages especially on a road going car. hard springing is not always the answer. the belief that as hard as possible springs gives the best handling is just wrong and any read of a good suspension book will tell you that. a light antiroll bar could be a good move.

the point of a anti roll bar is that on harsh cornering when one side is deprest the roll bar puts downwould pressure on to level out the car and stops one wheel coming of the floor. so are you a sunday driver or a weekend loony LOL

I have read somewhere that you can make an anti roll bar from seemless tube and welded crank arms with holes at various lengths to be able to make adjustments to the rate.

I was told by an engineer at Eibach that anti-roll bars are made from an alloy steel which shares may properties of spring steel and is enhanced by the heat treatment and shot peening process. Just making from a piece of mild steel bar would likely end in distortionor snapping unless you could get it heat treated.

In other words an anti roll bar needs to be engineered rather than smithed if it is to work right.

As for the original posters question several Triumph bars are available from the donors of the front suspension as well as uprated aftermarket/competition parts. Not sure I understand why the op feels he needs one.

And yes why do people want rediculessly hard suspension?

A front ARB will induce understeer so unless your car is very 'taily' then I dont see the benifit and if it is taily find out why first as it shouldn't be :-)

I was just asking out of interest,  if you look at a lot of the pictures of Phaetons going around a track, they all seem to excessivly compress the loaded side suspension, and stick the opposite wheel arch in the air.  Not that I intend mine, for track work!! 

Bearing in mind that I was advised on here, not to bother with fancy upgraded front suspention, I just wondered if an ARB would be of any benefit............ probably not of any use slapping out to country pubs :-)

Impossible to answer that one BV, havn't driven it yet.

Ok when you've had a few decent drives you should be able to identify what you like or dont like about the handling and then we'll have something to work with. Ride and handling is a very personal thing and what one person likes another dislikes. Find out how it is now then we can look at what to improve. :-)
