Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

nipped out to pick up some Dolly sprint "bits" today and he has this for sale, now I have a hatred of TR7's, but could grow to like this one.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1980-Triumph-TR7-V8-4-6-litre-SUPER-CHARG...

Also noticed the number, too long for a Dutton number
Bet its freshly stamped herald number !
Interesting times on ebay ! Now got the worlds oldest s1 with a Ali chassis plate and number 4880
Thou in the sale he is trying to make out its a s3 bless

That one hasn't been taxed since 2006. It was registered in '85 and chassis 4880 would have left the factory towards the end of 1984, which would make it an S3. Why do you think it is an S1, Rob? Is the chassis wrong or something?

There maybe a valid reason for this, we don't know it's full history.

Cos it is an s1,its cloned but at least a Dutton has cloned a Dutton !

Yes, I can see that you are right there, definitely not an S3. I should have known that. It is an unusual cloning - destroying an S3 to get an S1 on the road. I wonder how recently it was cloned.

Not recently although it has history.

Sadly this car has seen better days... As you can see.

Hiding half a number plate doesn't always work...

Maybe it should be saved... Any takers?

Reason would be there is a LOT of work gone into the s1
Look at the pressed Ali floors, bulkhead etc the rear diffuser and the suspension
Work isn't top notch but its a pretty high standard and not the usual rubbish you see
Someone wanted it on the road so a scabby s3 had to die
You either condem all clones or none you cant be selective

If he hadn't claimed that it was an S3 and shown the chassis plate then probably nobody would have noticed, ever. I think that it was probably cloned many years ago before it was on the road last (2006) and probably not by its current owner. I think that because the DVLA details agree with the car being Pinto powered and I can't see someone changing the DVLA details if it wasn't on the road and needing insurance. I wonder, is there a statute limit to how far back cloning applies, like the old 7 year rule for some crimes?

No statute as far as I know. Proving responsibility is a whole different thing.

the reason I'll not put BVY back on the road. I don't have any bodywork and there's no decent stuff around, I could throw an hrs7 shell over the top but then I'll get shouted down for it being a clone or a ringer :-(

I see the 'GT40' is back on ebay AGAIN. This time it's a 1969 GT40... manufactured by ford no less....

"Very rare GT40 fitted with a large 3lt Alfa Romeo manual gearbox, mid mounted, fitted with reversing camera and in very nicie condition, fresh tyres, very cool machine! "

So when they see Dutton on the log book what happens then.... No reg on the listing and no plates on the car...
