Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Just been asked by someone, can they change the oil seals in a Ford box, front and rear, without dismantling the box. Therefore can he pull the seals out from outside the box?

He has just bought a 1660 Escort Mk2 that goes like stink but leaves little puddles when parked :-))

As far as I know the answer is yes.

Rear seal is a push fit into the tailshaft (push with BIG socket and tapping 'ammer)

Front seal is retained behind a plate held with four bolts, not sure if its an easy one to extract or not, refit with lump of scaff tube as  need to get over the input shaft.

is it gear oil or is it engine oil == rear crank seal ???

Harrier gearbox all disconnected and ready to drop. Hope he has the right seals:-)  He has his baseball capped, tattooed mates with him, let's see how strong they really are. I'm off for a coffee and a warm up.

I'm in !!

Had to go back, they couldn't get the clutch cable on. Showed them my "secret" trick, all happy now. And I'm well chuffed.
