It's got an mot, so what's wrong with it? next thing we know the DVLA will be putting blocks on our cars. He's not put a description on it so he doesn't get asked to justify himself.

We're probably seen as a thorn in DVLA's side now so thet're taking it out on us :-)

Dvla know that various kits are being rung and so they are all now flagged as suspect.

So now I have to go through a DVLA inspection and possibley the risk of an IVA just to put my car back on the road.

Well done to the DOC massive fail. Last week everyonbe was bemoaning the dutton low values now everything not on the road is as near as makes no odds worthless! Who will want to buy one if theres a risk of having the reg withdrawn and an IVA.

When will you lot learn you're not saving any duttons as most were rung years ago, you'vce just made it near impossible for the dutton massive to do anything to our cars without a load of un-needed hassle. No wonder Mike Snelson's been blowing a fuse I understand his frustration now.

 

So long as a dutton being returned to the road is exactly as it was when taken off the road then there should be no problem. My car isn't in that catagory. A full nut and bolt rebuild and upgrade with differnt engine, body colour and new body work for that fresh build look is going to wake soneone up at the VRO!

I'll have ago at anyone who I think does the club a disservice, over the years that has been some of the people that run the club and some just ordinary members. I understand what some people have been trying to do regarding ringers but I also pointed out sometime ago that making too much noise attracts the wrong sort of attention and so it would appear.

As I've already stated these ringers arn't new, they were rung many years ago. There's no saving of old duttons to be done here. Nowadays duttons get scrapped off. Well derr. they have little value what do you really expect?

My car is worth more to me parted out than as a complete car and if it's gonna give me any more grief to put back on the road then I will part it out and send the logbook back to the DVLA.

As I'm sure you can tell from this thread I was pretty wound up yesterday. Mainly because of Dave A's ill advised comment for which I have found not evidence so far to back it up:-I  Grrrr. Proper made me look a Twonk he has!

Many Duttons were rung a good few years ago and the cars themselves sitting at the bottom of a landfil somewhere. Thats just how it is. Shouting about it doesn't help, reporting it to our DVLA liason officer - Ade - does.

From what I have found out today either cars arn't being barred by the DVLA or only Duttons are. Ade I suspect only you will be able to verify this.

 

Sadly, it was inevitable really with so many people 'cheating'.

You want to see the number of pre '81 Duttons and Robin Hoods in France that look suspiciously like MK's, MNR's, and the like, no more than a couple of years old.

No Derek, it's because certain people have been poking the DVLA with a stick and now they're coming down hard on all Duttons legit or not. My ground up  nut and bolt rebuild with new bodywork will like as not attract suspicion and be sent for an IVA which it can't pass.

Why are you sure it cant pass vern ?    apart from the return edge question  that i have been  informed can be done with rubber moulding  by several people now , on several car build sites they used it on their cars and they passed , these were both older cars,  so that it looks to be an accepted way  round this,

 The windscreen radios,  isnt a problem leave it off for the test,

IVA looks like being a fact of  life that will most likily not be avoided  so lets look at it from a question of, ok, what do i have to do  to meet it,  i know that for most of us its the extra cost  thats going to be hardest to swallow  , I've read the manual (IVA, not Dutton)  several times and if you are starting from scratch  then i doesnt seem to put too many hurdles in your way,  if you are guided by it  , even the dutton manual has the tandem master cylinder  and low fluid level  requirement and thats only just come in in the last couple of years , on the IVA/SVA

 Any way, i thought that body swops  ie same for same regardless of colour  are allowed and should not necessary mean having to be subjected to  an IVA ?    

If rebuilding an already registered car meant having to undergo the IVA test then I'd have built an IVA compliant kit to start with and saved myself a lot of grief and extra work!

The extra £700-£1000 to get through the IVA is not going to be reflected in increased value so it's more money down the drain.

its not just Duttons, all cars with independent chassis are being flagged, the DVLA  are less interested in whether its a Dutton that's been rebuilt, than if it's a modern kit (or car) pretending to be a "rebuild" of something else. so you should be OK with your rebuild as it can be verified that's it's a Dutton.

I dont see what the grumble is all about, folks bemoan the cars being rung, but dont like the measures to prevent it happening. What can anyone suggest to prevent it going on?
