Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

It's got an mot, so what's wrong with it? next thing we know the DVLA will be putting blocks on our cars. He's not put a description on it so he doesn't get asked to justify himself.

Writing in the status bar doesn't thread unless you answer it in the staus again.

Just to add my 2 pence worth. My car that I bought a few months ago was standing for five and a half years. The car went (and passed) MOT easy and DVLA did their bit no problem and that was with me worrying as there was a mistake on V5. simple really. I should also thank Ade as he was supportive to me as I am new to the world of Duttons.

To also add my winge! change happens, DEAL WITH IT!!!!!

i,m reluctantly ,open,, to suggestions as what to do with this lot,,,the fun has now been knocked out of them for me,,

and just to top it of a forum member has made me a ,,very,, insulting offer,,,,,,

Sorry Mike, but trying to hold the DOC to ransom for the pickup or leverage a higher price for something you got given really stinks. Several of us wanted the pickup but you got there first so fair play to you, but the deal was always that the pickup should be restored. After all the person you got it from could have sold it to classic fraud spares and you would have been the first on here to moan about it.

If you've genuinly lost interest in your duttons then post Ade with a list of what you have and what prices you want and he'll put it on the for sale bit of the DOC web site.

And yes I was pretty P**sed by Dave A's ill advised comment yesterday, especially as it would appear to be uncorroborated. (So now I look like a TW&T for losing it and getting all bent out of shape.)

What we need is people posting facts not opinions!

well tonight i was hoping the we could forget all this and just let it lye,,, but some member just to cause trouble

i,m at a complete loss at it all now ,

how the ,hell, has a couple of people got my landline number !!!!! that i havnt even given out to senior forum member  ,,classic ford spare,s ,, phoned me with an offer(no chance)  got my nimber from contact details on here ,,,,,,,,,i dont know how,, also a couple of others,, ,,, most have used the right way through the forum message system

how has someone got my land line that i hav,nt given out ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,  to make this  crystel clear  the said phone number is in my partners name and is a newish number ,,i have only been using it less than two years,,,its going to make me ,,paronoid,,, from now on.,,,

Mike S, shouldnt this be better dealt with by way of PM's  rather than on forum for all to read, it does the club no favours .

Getting back to the real question, which should be just how much can i do to my car before it becomes in official eyes no longer the same car? Its a grey area, what  is needed is for Ade to maybe get it chapter and verse from DVLA and then that way every knows just how far they can go, because at the moment  subjects like this are just causing unnecessary  worries when as far as i can tell, no one knows the answer, , but i suspect its most likily a revenue earning exercise from HMGov, ie if you make it unclear, then you can extract more money from motorists in the way of IVA fees when a well recearched  club member  that knows the rules  might be able to say  to the examiner, no actually  this car meets your guidelines  and can quote the necessary text

Ade will get the same info I posted earlier. VOSA have laid out what constitutes inappropriate modification. The DVLA act by withdrawing the registration so the only way to use the car is to register it again by going through the IVA process. The VRO/VIC check is where the decision is taken as to whether the car is still the original car or not.

As the government is closing some of the IVA test centres just as more vehicles come into the IVA sphere of operation I don't think its a money making exercise after all they could just put the fee up!

Vern can i ask a question, before you modified your car, did you concider that what you were going to do might cause you problems, or was it a case of what most of us have done at some stage, just do it anyway and hope you dont get asked to many questions about it  later?   because if i am honest  havnt we all to some stage modified a car, and not reported it to the DVLA as modified, my Charger was on paper a 1300, but had someone looked closely they would have noticed it had 1600 barrels , I must admit, had the situation been what it is now, and i had to had the charger put through IVA you would have seen the biggest fail sheet ever  nothing on that car was iva complient  ,nothing to do with my workmanship,  it was a cr*p design  it might have used a beetle floor pan and mechcanics, but that was about all ,

When I started the phaeton rebuild in '98 (yes that was 15 years ago:-o) it was only meant to be a quick fix and get it on the road, then I got offered new bodywork from an unstarted kit, so I decided to do a complete restore. The changes I made then were allowed at the time.  It was a registered car so I thought it would be easier than building new and going through the SVA.

Unfortunatly during that time life got in the way and the Dutton kept getting put on the back burner. Legislation has moved on and potentially I could be a victim of just not getting it done in time :-(

But to be fair, would a VW beetle pass a modern IVA... I think not.
