DuttonOwners

Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

It's got an mot, so what's wrong with it? next thing we know the DVLA will be putting blocks on our cars. He's not put a description on it so he doesn't get asked to justify himself.

Writing in the status bar doesn't thread unless you answer it in the staus again.

I did indeed PM you on this Vern, but I still want to know to what the original comment refers, Dave...?

CALM DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone new to the mark and looking into the club scene before they bye a car will be taking to the hills and joining the robin hood or lowcost scene if they read this rubbish !!!

You can mod you dutton chassis-END OFF !

You can change the engine, the colour, body style etc

You can strip your Dutton down to the very last nut and bolt, repair, replace, repaint every nut and bolt or even have a replacement chassis made and still be legal-and not have to do another IVA

We are no diffrent to TVR,S Scimitars,Westfields or Caterham so get a grip people

If we want to stop the ringers on ebay there is a very simple way-an im quite prepared to put my name 1st on the list-we take it in turns to bid on an win the ringers then refuse to pay as its a ringer,I.E a fake item, read ebays policy on fake items

Not going to stop all avenues but could close the ebay route to the ringers fairly quickly

Sorry Rob, but no vehicle chassis or monocoque structure can be modified in any way between a point from the front of the front tyre to the rear of the rear tyre without incurring a visit to the IVA centre. Thus no cutting of monocoque bulkheads to fit different engines etc. The rodding seen have been going fruit loop over this one! as anything old won't pass an IVA.

Source of info = VOSA, what constitues an inappropriate modification.

Historical modding that Dave A refers to means mods done years ago with evidence to show the car has been in use since and not mods to historical cars.

To replace like for like is acceptable but you must provide proof. ie recept for new chassis from manufacturer etc and it must be exactly the same.

With regard to 'ringers' most were done years ago in the early days of the SVA whining about it now won't bring back all those lost cars. They got rung 'cos they wern't worth anything anyway.

Ade is our DVLA liason man and we should pass info to Ade to deal with not keep shouting about it on the forum as that scares any new members away as you have quite rightly pointed out.

It came in when the IVA came in. Its refered to in the IVA but is vague and VOSA were asked by many organisations for clarification. I had assumed it was common knowledge as its well known about in the rodding and modding circles. Engine, gearbox and body mounting brackets can be cut moved etc, but no cutting of chassis rails, outriggers or cross members or any crash protection/structures. With monocoque any cuts to chassis members or bulkheads is a no no. There is to be no change to wheel base or alterations extensions to body overhang etc. Only repair as original is allowed is the way it was presented to me. How such mods could be detected with kit cars may be more of an issue but if the VRO inspector is in any doubt he can request the cars identity is suspended pending an IVA examination.

A full run down was posted on 'the ACE' website among others if you want to go have a look. They had direct contact with VOSA.

Horrendously difficult to implement on kit cars especially if you don't mention the modifications to anyone.

If you are going for a VIC then this may become a problem which I wasn't aware of however now I am aware of it I can do some research to see just how deep the stone is etched on this with our mates at the DVLA.

You can probably understand why the authorities want regulations like this in place although it could put an end to so many 'Hot Rods' and other 'modified' vehicles from the road unless they meet government standards.

It basically brings an end to the 'garage car builder' as we know it and if everything built or modified at home has to go for an IVA its going to generate a lot of revenue.

Got to be honest, won't stop me changing mine if needed and I will just take a chance the MOT tester or VIC inspector doesn't spot it. I think its what's called a calculated risk.

As far as Dutton's in general are concerned I think I'm pretty safe to say the club will support any body if the car is 'geniune' and gets called in for a VIC. There are some vehicles already out there that have been through this process in one form or another. Daryl's Sierra, John Allen's Phaeton and soon, Marc's Melos

Hear! Hear! Rob. I opened this thread after reading the comments made about the guy selling his Locost with no reference to Dutton in his advert, but members attacked the guy with e-mails no wonder he lost his rag, so would I.

Like you say a new member must think we're a set of right moaners. Lets get back to what the forum is for "Dutton chat, what you are building, modding or just running.  Let the ringers be sold as long as it's not you buying it then it isn't your problem.

Vern I am sure if club records show your car as having all the correct details including new engine and box No's then who's to doubt that's how you bought it.

"  I opened this thread after reading the comments made about the guy selling his Locost with no reference to Dutton in his advert, but members attacked the guy with e-mails no wonder he lost his rag, so would I. "

Mike S was the one ragging the bloke and winding himself up! now he's taking it out on the rest of us - go figure?

" Vern I am sure if club records show your car as having all the correct details including new engine and box No's then who's to doubt that's how you bought it " The engine and gearbox it now has were from a model of car that didn't exist when the car was laid up back in 1994. Add that to the pristince new build look of the car and its bound to raise concerns when it gets a VIC check which it would appear will be require for anything thats been laid up for more than 5 years.

My car isn't a ringer  but might be seen as one partly because so much fuss has been made by people shouting about ringers.

RIGHT!!!!! TO  BE HONEST,,,, ive had loads of trouble over duttons recently ,,just as was about  five years ago (when i mothballed em) for the ame reason ==all chat an shit,!!!!!!!!

i,v got back to them and tried to do the best i can ,,,but with all good intensions  ,i,m wastinig my time and money ,,,,,my health aint good and time,s are troubling me ,,,stress,, is starting to make me ill again,, just get me ,,right,, i aint putting all the blame on ,,duttons,, but it aint .helping ,, i did hope that things would be better ,,,,,,i saved a pickup and wanting to do whats best for the so called ,,dutton,, name its still here as i got it appart from it now runs  but i,m in danger of being ,,,a,, wrong -un,, if i do what i had planned  i have on total 3 melos,s only 2 with v5,s one of which is now in doubt ,,,thanks a bunch,!!!!!!!!!  so ,,classic ford spares ,, is probably the way to go,, dont wet youre ,knickers,, he wont get any  v5c,s , ive allready put them in the envelope to go to DVLA,, in the morning ,,declared ,,scrapped ,, thanks for youre time ,MJS,,  formaly - STONEHEADS MOTOR COMPANY,,,

And I'm still none the wiser as to what started all this off as no one seems to have posted an ebay link or anything link for that matter.

At the risk of being a broken record. If you do have ANY issues with your Dutton and with the DVLA then come to me.

Also to re-state what Rob said, please calm down.

VIC checks are not uncommon. nor are they a new thing directed at Dutton owners specifically. We're not being persecuted or victimised.

@Mike. If you don't have time to finish them Mike then sell them on and buy a finished one. You have enough bits to build two complete Melos's and I know that once you get the house move sorted you will have time to reflect and maybe regret selling any of them. The Sierra is useful and If you have it running what's to stop you going for an MOT just to see what else needs doing.

pick-up as much as it is original ,, classic ford  rang me outa the blue with an offer of £650 unseen,

aND WITH ALL THE SHIT THATS BEEN STIRRED  WHAT WOULD YOU DO ,,ADE ,,????

P.S  some one on here is tipping classic ford

He's probably registered to use tis site and many others to see whos got what he can pick up on the cheap. Its faily common for specialists to do that these days. Just go over to the MK2 cortina owners site - he doesn't even hide his identity.
