Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Been squirreling away a few idea's and parts the last few weeks. Even bought a rusty MX5. So thinking now about a small engine. Like a fiesta 1400 or these 1.25. The easy way is the MX5 engine and box, plus maybe a narrowed MX5 back axle assembly. The mixer is 1800 5speed and a slip diff. Been welded poorly in all the places they rust, but goes really well. Almost a shame to break it up. So back to small engines, any input?

It is going in a B type, which will be small and light, I hope

Bit of a hold up, bit of a problem. Seems the Polish guys have the bonnet stuck in the mould !! Not a worry they say, it will come out eventually !!

Mounting the tub? Mastic or rubber on the chassis first?

The Polish guys only had a mould for a phaeton, They wanted a mould for the B type. In return I get a spare, brand new bonnet. Well, that was the plan !!

Its free !! my bonnet has popped out without any damage. Beat it about a bit with a rubber mallet and it came away, PHEW !!

just for a change I have been batting around the South Hams with a young, well younger then me, in the passenger seat. She has never been in a 7 type car, so was prepared for a shock. Turned out she loved it. 2 trips over 120 mile each trip, now booked a third one across North Devon. Why? well she has been helping do my family tree, she is now getting on my case to build the red one and she will have it from me !!

Well done that man, got to love new recruits to the fold mate.

Is that one of your modelling friends? You might regret letting her have the red one … if you can't keep up.

James she is a very, long lost friend. Near on 50 years ! She spotted my name on a search site for family tree stuff and contacted me. She went on to get higher education, I went in the Dockyard and discovered motor bikes and we parted. Power of social media.

I done a hundred miles yesterday, a well documented route. I used the same roads since the 60's. I noticed my mileometer has shown 109 miles. That is near on 10 % out. That is dissapointing as the speed is also showing wrong too then. 185/70x13 tyres. So low profiles may have done this??

MX5 steering column, a tenner in the scrappy. All switches fit the loom, bit of welding and filing but its almost there, and , the MX5 universal fits the moggy thou column spline, which fits the Escort steering rack. WOW, more than lucky, bloody jammy I reckon. The B+ clutch has started to slip, more work, it aint easy this being retired. :-)  :-)

I just happened to have a plummer block bearing laying around on the bedside table, as you do :-)
