Does any one have a clutch disc from a 2.0L pinto engine ( type 9,  5 speed) that they can measure the diameter of ?  Or do you knowledgable blokes know this from memory?

i was told 5 speed capri thrust brg but seem th think it was a 3ltr one ,,same as ,scimiter,,?????

when i mentioned sierra diesel i meant the 1800 diesel the ford endura and also the 1800 td ,,also fitted in the p100

This is the trouble and why I said a 45gallon drum of worms, few people have actually done it and unless you have the benifit of experience you can easily lead people up the garden path costing them money when they buy the wrong parts. I got burnt like this in the past which is why I went down the route of re-drilling the flywheel to take the sierra clutch. If you don't have access to a suitable mill etc to ensure complete acuracy the buy one from 105speed or retroford. cheaper than an all steel jobbie from Burton.

vern, youre dead right about the drum of worms,, so many wrong way,, conversions about i,v rescued quite a few over the years  one mazda/perkins in a range rover where the clutch complete with the g/box input shaft came up through the bell housing when the flywheel let go of the crank,,

don't remember the endura in the sierra - must have been very late ones I thought the endura (linx) went in the Escort (ce14)and Mondeo(cdw27) Commecials are a different world and often parts don't interchange like youi might expect

still got an old customer that comes back now and again with an 18td sierra estate on a G plate 230,000 on the clock last time i looked at it

Thanks BV,     going to have a go at re machining for Sierra clutch.  Just had a look at Retro Ford, they sell a dust cover plate to go between the Zetec and Type 9 box ....... result, saves me having to make one from scratch with cardboard templates :-)

Been thinking about this overhight. Machining for the drive pins could be a pig without cnc. Do you have a local machine shop that can do it?

I stand corrected on the 1.8 friction discs as there are two andI should have known this. Mondeo and late XR3 used the MTX75 box which was 1"x23 others used the IB5 box with a much smaller first motion shaft.

I have just ordered a clutch and flywheel and dust cover from Retro Ford. At least I have peace of mind that it will all work!  and thinking about all the faffing around machining it myself with my old equipment, I decided my time can be spent more profitably elsewhere in the work shop.

Cheers for the help lads.

Don't know if you can do what I did with my fwd cvh engine with the zetec. I fitted a 1.8 cvh sierra flywheel and starter with standard 2.0 sierra pinto clutch and release bearing. All bolted straight up

You can use the RWD cvh flywheel but they're not thick on the ground and don't have the machined 'teeth' for the crank sensor. Also the CVH uses M10 flywheel bolt and the Zetec uses M11

i put a standerd mondeo clutch in my car i know a 1.8 cvh pressure plate fits on the zetec flywheel as thats how i masured mine up using the cvh that came with the box to comper but i have hydrolic clutch i have seen a adapter for the releas arm to move the pivet pin 1" to meet the clutch for cable type i adapted to make it simple for getting a new one if need be so i can get a clutch from any auto speres.
