Is that not repairable? it will only be seized bearing or worn out brushes which can be made up from an old drill or something.

The lower bearing has seized on the shaft, the brush carrier has melted, the motor is full of rust flakes and you can't take it apart any further than I have already. I tried wd40, the airline, grips, grinder and the big hammer. :-)

It is currently soaking in oil/wd40 mix as its not critical for the MOT.

I am looking at substitute fans from a server as they will give me an equivalent flow rate at about 1/4 of the power consumption and nil cost as I will get it from work. Just means I will have to 'modify' the casing a bit.

Is yours a plactic heater? didn't think they fitted them in the Escorts - would have expected a metal heater box, if so then I still have a single speed heater fan, there are alll sorts of motors you could graft on, fan motor from a mini?

Have you checked that part direct with bosch? there are plenty of "merchants" on ebay selling for much above the retail on things like that. Local washing M/C repair man wanted to charge me £80 + fitting for motor brushes, the brushes are £17 from Bosch!

Yes its the plastic one from a Capri but they did fit them in the later mk2's evidently.

I'll fettle summat up before winter. It was just the price of an electric motor that scared me stupid.

I can find a computer fan with more CFM for less than a tenner, adaptation is the rule.

Thanks for the offer Vern but I have an escort heater fitted in the car at the moment, I wanted the extra capacity to keep the car vented in winter.

Im not surprised , Nearly £60 for a fan motor,    that is taking the p***s

At some stage, i,m going to have to find a heater , do people still use the old escort one?  if you can find one that is?  has anyone tried to graft a heater from any other car that might be more availible  from brakers such as a fiesta ,Mini ,  or any other small car, or is an escort the only one that will fit without cutting the scuttle to bits?

Old BL type mini heater fits nicely on top of the gearbox tunnel, thats what I'm using. Looked at the MX5 one but it looks a bit big, might fit in a Sierra though :-)  I'll try and dig up some pictures of the MX5 HVAC (graft an A./C comp. on and you could keep cool in the summer as well)

Ade,
