Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

I've had a good read of "How to rewire car – the easy way" and it seems to me a good system. The idea of using all one coloured wire took me back at first but it is only important to understand what a wire is where it's connected, so a good plan.  I also like the idea of actually understanding what is going on rather than the typical mess in any old car.  So the logical approach is just what's needed.

I think from comments I've seen on other discussions that Dave Adams may have written it.  If so, has Dave or anyone else whose used it got any thoughts:-

Colour Coding.  Has anyone come up with an alternative to coloured insulating tape?  From using it previously around single wires I find it difficult to apply neatly and would worry it would fall off over time.

I have looked for clip on markers but can only find ones for larger diameter mains cables.

Coloured heat shrink only seems to be colour coded for different sizes so that's no good.

The most likely candidate seems to be coloured cable ties - cheap and would stay put, just not the neatest because of the lump where they lock.

The other thing I would be interested to know is whether people find the screw terminations in the choc blocks coming loose over time.  They are easy to re-tighten but I wonder whether they are prone to loosening in the real world of vibration that is a Dutton?

This is partly professional curiosity as I have designed a number of electrical connectors over the years.

you can get small rubber type rings that slip over the wire with numbers/letters on them used mostly in the eletronics

but makes a good system for a rewire

Thank's James, that's just the type of thing I was thinking of - have you any ideas about a source - I've tried a few searches but no luck.

I also have those coloured numbered tags. you can buy them from vehicle wiring products. you could also use the lucas wiring as its easy to buy all the different colour wire. or do as i just have and buy 15m of 6 core wire and strip it down.
Oh and yes i wrote the article. feel free to ask Q‘s.

i tend to get trailer seven core and strip that  and when possible  i use a lenth of seven core to run from the front to the back i.e main lighting loom and use  7n trailer code  all the way  some hgv, commercial is better quality and of course to keep with e.u. regs ther is now the new 13 core trailer cable  ,, shouldt get stuck for colours now,, lol,

In 4years and 20,000 miles the chock blocks have been trouble free.
The insulting tape (read it again ;-) ) is not too hard to apply or too slow and is easily available. i have just redone my car because of the changes i have made to it. after 4 years i could not easily remove the insulating tape tags.
