Photo (poor) of baffled sump added. Any suggestions about removing the return tube from the oil pump to the sump? It's a press fit and I would rather take it out before taking block for a rebore.

"Hi James, so we're we. In fact they insisted we didn't where a helmet! The CofC's experience was that people wearing helmets got carried away and tried too hard - it was a charity 'fun' event rather than a competition."

Uploaded a GoPro video courtesy of my son Sam - we are both working on the Phaeton to use for some "sporting" fun. The video was from the Prescott charity event which was a great success. Last weekend we tried a track day (llandow) which was fun but too short due to "problems".Overheating and a worsening engine knock curtailed the day.So engine out this weekend to look at the damage.Have been enjoying the car with aeroscreen - have now fitted the brooklands style which I think works well. Running Improvements

Posted on May 21, 2015 at 23:10 30 Comments

Hope this will be of interest to some of you, especially those who took the time to share their experience to help me out.  A quick recap.  I bought an S3 Phaeton in Autumn last year that was running, with MOT and a good basic spec.  Probably paid too much but I wanted a runner to work on rather than the B+ Malaga sat in bits.

Spec; 1700 crossflow, twin 40 Dellortos, BCF2 cam, Bosch electronic distributor, Type 9 box, 5 link axle with rose joints, Gaz adjustable dampers.…

Progress ?

Posted on July 4, 2014 at 23:42 3 Comments

Pretty pissed off tonight - I managed to put in a lot of hours over the last couple of weeks but didn't allow enough clearance. I'm trying to gain as much leg room as possible so I can actually get in and drive but I took key positions when the axle wasn't actually on full bump so now I have to do it all again!

I may have asked this before, but does anyone run bump stops for their axles?

I hope to make some positive progress over the weekend - at least I can attach my new chassis… Continue

I've filled the garage

Here's the first view of what's covered my lovely clean garage floor, can you tell what it is yet?

I'm sorting the paperwork out with Ade but it's not going to be ready for Stoneleigh that's for sure.  It was a runner (before I got at it) because I was determined not to buy a several year long project. …
