DuttonOwners

Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

The ning site in this form is aloud 150 members, which we hit today. I have removed 6 tyre kickers who became members but have not visited the site, and found a bit more space by deleting some of the African lady that where in the banned folder which took space but stopped them from mithering us. (If anyone wants mithering by them drop me a line and I'll put them in touch with you).

So we have a bit of space again but not much.

By the way, I can talk to Ning, if Derek dosent want to, as I run another Ning site the same as this ( basic version ) and find out if the full blown version could be more taylored to our requirements, that way we wouldnt have to change host.

Paul, Thanks for the Northern Duttoneers plug, but this is not our site. Tim (Bodger) Walker is the owner of the site, and he funds this site himself.

This is the most inter-active site for the Dutton marque, and it works. THe DOC site to me as been dead in the water for a couple of years now. as is the club in my opinion (That's the lid off the barrel of worms) we are paying £12 a year for what? A magazines or 2 which most of the stories we have already on here , a club tent at a couple of shows, and a website that is like a museum piece.

Paul PM Tim direct and discuss what can be done.

As for finding past articles on the Ning site, when it drops off the bottom click on the more button and it continues to list, or if you wrote the story, blog then go to your "My Page" where it list everything you have done.

Last post I can see on Mr G's is in April, and the DOC site 12th June. now tell me which site works. From our stats on here in the last 3 days 41 members have logged on or been active.

I know Tim funds the site, I presumed that he was one of your group, but no longer participated.  I will contact him to get his take on the situation. Then lets find out from all who are regulars, exactly what they would like added to the site to make it better.

It would then need to be put to the DOC committe to be voted on. If the green light is given for the change then we can move forward, If not, then there is no point in continuing the discussion as we are going to end up with the same as we have now ... many different sites ! Consolidating it makes good sense.  We have at least three committee members who are regulars on this site, who can get the ball rolling, pushing the stuff and nonsense to the side, it could be done by post with out having to have a once yearly meeting.

Committee members what are your thoughts?   Positive thinking chaps!!

Need to get the facts clear here Dave. Your copyright to photos and articles belongs to you and if a third party with your permission wants to copy said photo and article they are free to do so without contacting Ning. See the attached screen shot from a chat I have just had with them.

I did a google search and its what i found so sorry if i stepped on toes. i didn't look too hard i will be honnest. just enough to convince me that there was likely to be a better forum host.

The Ning site as been running since 15th Oct 2008 and supported every single day by it's members. Yesterday I had to make a bit of room to add 3 new members, and it was difficult as there are only 8 members who have not logged on this year. Now tell me again about another forum that's works better. You as a commitee member of the DOC should be pushing for the main DOC site working and as popular as this one. We all pay £12 into the DOC for membership with very little return. Next Martin Lewis Money Expert will be creating a sample letter so we can claim our money back.

i liked this site because it was friendly with out any major arguments,,,,,,,,, now youre arguing over its very exsistance ?????????????????????????

I think its more a friendly debate than argument. Personally I think the Mr G forum is best but has too many sections to it. Problem I see is that if a new forum is created then we will all end up using 4 forums instead of 3....

No argement from me this putting the record straight, this is a friendly site and isn't going to disappear.

Steve I fully agree with you DOC committee members do a good job at keeping the Club alive, but the main contact to the Club is The Dutton Owners Club which never changes. It's not the only one take a look at NW Robin Hoods wedsite http://nw.rhocar.org/ that's been like that for neasrly 3 years. You know me well enough to know I only have the clubs interests at heart, and sometimes the bag just needs shaking up.

your right Dave it does need a shake once in a while....

I have been pushing for the main forum site (DOC site ) to be changed but i am not the web master and its not my job.....i could take an active role in doing it, but i firmly believe when folks volunteer for a committee position they must be left to the best job they can, if anyone feels they can do a better job the committee is always short of  members and nominations are always welcome at the AGM. we need a regalia officer for example.....

This forum is popular thats true and i use it as much as anyone, but i am not a fan of its format style......i am happy to use it but if it needs club funds to pay for a well used forum then i would advocate looking at all of those available first. and if this format turns out to be the best then ok. I am a fan of MrG's forum it is well laid out and easy to search, this one is not.;

As for membership costs....£12 is the cheapest club membership of any that i am involved with, true we dont get as many magazines as we used to, but articles are thin on the ground, i have done my best and even produced the first one recently.......largely from content i generated myself, but with help from some of the membership. its a problem the club has always had. but the club does a fair bit and i dont feel i am being robbed.

I am also not the type of person to allow popularist rhetoric let things happen with out exploring options even if i happen to agree with the sentiments expressed. i cannot help myself in arguing for the underdog sometimes successfully enough to get things i dont want, to happen. i could kick myself sometimes.

dont think i am having a go........i like banter and feel that its a great way to explore options, i also have never made secret that i dont like this forum style, i dont like ford escorts either but i have bought 3 of them as they were cheap and did the job, i am nothing if not pragmatic.

so as i say Dave no hard feelings and i am not having a "pop" at you.
