I originally thought it could have been one of these upside down.

But I had a couple of old ones and they didn't fit.

(Cortina mk5)

I reckon the mk3 escort ones would fit but the moulding would have to be altered.

hi. right the bloody sierra has a mind of its own, and does not want to go back on the road. got up this morning thought ill fit the bumper and grill on sierra. got bumper on grill ready. noticed a leak from water pump area....(bugger). so striped it down. made and changed the water pump and thermostat gasket for good measure ....will i had all that lot off i plucked up courage to change the cam belt...(balls in hand lets do it). did the cam belt easy as peas. even the pully came off ok. refitted the water pump. ect ect. ok big test time. key in ignition. fired up and ran like a dream. fanststic. went to the front bloody still a water leak. so after careful examination , the water pump has a pin hole in it and thats where the leak is coming from. and then the rad sensor connection broke off the rad. f kin great. patience is wearing thin now and so is my money. but im determined to get this bugger on the road. gonna need extra beer tonight

Both of my Pintos did exactly the same. I am told that they all go when they start being used again after a lay-up. I think it is the seal on the shaft, and that is why it come out of that small hole. A new pump is the answer.

The engine in the Sierra was stored dry for 8 years and i've had no water pump issues so maybe draining the engine before storage is a plan...

thanks james. im not shure its coming from the seal yet. ill investigate today. so hard to see though

is this water pump steel..? magnet sticks to it

not botherd about cost £30 having to wait 3 days to get it grhh

Water pump internals are steel, main body should be ally however...later models may be different.

Sierra water pump (1988 2.0 SOHC) from £20 + postage upto £40 + for a firstline one.

I can get it delivered to me at 8.30am monday, first class post to you for tuesday.

IF I have one on the shelf, (and I won't know until about 10.30AM) it would be cheaper for you to come and get it tomorrow ...

Don't rely on just the paper gasket!

Is your old one leaking from the bearing, the bottom of the housing or the gasket edge?

looks like a pin hole in the pump housing ade. not 100% till tmz

i allways use instant gasket both sides of new gasket

Have you already ordered a replacement?
