Changed the wiring of the coil  so that the negative goes to the dizzy - made no difference and fitted a balast resistor (found it tie wrapped to the dizzy).

Ok , got me wiring sorted out now. Car starts on the button as this is what i have also wired in via the ignition switch. In the end it was not difficult given that i bought a multi meter and a bit of common sense applied.

Made a new dashboard as well as the car did not have a speedo and the dash that was on the car was a bitch to take out as it caught on the steering column.

Thanks for the comments guys , as you might have guessed i am no sparky.

Will be having another go on weekend , just glad to get the car up and running as i hate it when it wont run and just sits there grinning at me.

Got a much better idea now of what goes where , maybe the previous owner did do a better job than i gave credit for had i not taken out the dashboard (ie hence femal spade connectors came off the switch x 6) then i would not have this hassle. Hindsight is a wonderful thing

How to rewire your car

you have looked at this haven't you?

basically from the diagram above the 12v position from the ignition switch needs to go (amongst other places) to a bulb then from the other side of the bulb to the alternator........

Read my article linked above it will help........
