A few duttons I have came with a plate between the chassis and arb bush and some haven't. I have put the plate in and it compresses the bush a lot more now and turning is more positive.
You can see how one of the brackets holes have elongated without the plate fitted although it was done up tight.

More to the point, Steve can I have a quote for three pairs please, one for the Sierra and one for each leggy.
tight as a Yorkshire man steve.........now that's tight lol
Today was a do what I like day, so I got on and made the packers or spacers for the anti roll bar. Then noticed the rack brackets were shiny, it was side slipping slightly. Anyway all done, tight as a ducks ar#e now. Cor! What a difference. Feels like I'm driving a modern now. Best it's ever been. Goes ,steers and stops well, how many Dutton's actually do all three? Now to sort getting in and out without crunching my head and neck. Six inches off my legs might help. Wish I could whistle, so happy :-)))
flat plate bolted to the old mountings either going all the way across or weld a right angle brace to bolt through the chassis above the old mountings and then just bolt right through slightly inboard, weld the bolts on from the back so you have a flat face to mount the bushes. Looking at the escort brackets they appear to be made out of 3mm pressed and bent into shape so not exactly 'industrial' strength.
Just got the new bushes and they have distorted when torque up. Ade, what you said about the chassis rails being further apart, is correct, so I'm going to make new in-board brackets and try that. Simple enough to do, and attach them to both inner chassis rails.
It will be moved round to the unit as soon as I sign and get keys. Still need to finalise a powertrain, got just about everything else covered.
Just been down and looked under both Capri's and they both seem to have those back plates, they have 22mm bars. The 1600E is a heap and I'm yet to venture under it ! Did notice that the Capri racks had backplates as well.
Wrong thread, Daryl.
20mm bar and 22mm bushes, bo**acks !! throw spanner and find it tomorrow :-))
I also have a 20mm ARB, I've just checked. By my calculations, the 22mm one would be 50% stiffer. Was there a lot of difference on the road, Ade?
