Found a problem with this V8, 16 valves to grind in, 16 rockers to grind and polish, 16 ports to clean up 8 pistols to weigh and balance, plus rods to polish and balance. I'll be here for days! Fingers are rubbed raw and I've only stripped it all and acid cleaned it all. The garage smells great :-)))

I am not that surprised that you could keep up because a Sierra probably isn't particularly heavy compared to an Escort and it should be lower geared. But the Escort would have a huge aerodynamic advantage by the time that you got past 60mph or so. Also his 3rd gear would out run yours. You probably scared him - you had nothing to lose but he had a lot to lose. Maybe you need a cam change and a set of Webers to really scare him.
Alternatively, I have an Essex V6 or two that are getting in my way in the garage...
There are several probables in this. Was it 1/4 mile, was the timing right, did she press the stop watch a fraction early (or late!). The RS2000 was the only constant in the equation, I kept up with him for 3/4 distance then he was gone. We both had Pinto power with 32/36 carbs. He had 4 speed I had the MT75. He had an Escort I had a brick. In the spring we have a club sprint and finish with a bit of a drag race. This has far more official timing and measuring, I normally take the B+ maybe try the Sierra, but it is a bent sprint, it may fall over :-)
15.56 for 1/4 mile is pretty impressive for a small block of flats :-))))
I think if I took it serious James, I could have gone faster. I was pleased, but have had endless banter from some others for being beat up by a Escort :-) Maybe once the "tuning" is sorted I'll try again, Bruv :-)
15.56 for 1/4 mile in the Sierra? that is good.
Our local drifters use the Asda Hypermarket car park for their stunts and the new link dual carriageway which has the Patchway Police station at one end. It has 3 roundabouts, which are good for getting the tail out.
They never stay in the same place, for obvious reasons. I'm not one of their preferred friends, but I do know a few ex apprentices who frequent the "races". Seems they had this new road under observation for a while, one of the mud monkeys that work on the roads, knew the tarmac date and he also knows when the road will be open :-) and which night is safest. Trouble being, now everyone and his mate know, the secret is out. Good fun, I was a bit out of place but the Supra guy remembered me from the studio shoot, so all was cool :-) more gangsta speak bruv.:-))
Heading home last night, I have to negotiate the building of a new town that no one wants. Anyway, they have just finished the new road into the site. Lo and behold, the street racer guys were there. These young and not so young ones meet up and cause mayhem every so often. Recently caused big trouble at local KFC, seems their tyres were hotter then the food. So I pull over to watch the Supra's and whatever else Jap scream off down this new road, suddenly its my turn ???? really??? lined up with a RS Escort Mk2. Held him most of the way, but lost it having to change up. He posted 14.04 sec. I posted 15.56 in the old Sierra. 11/2 second is a lot of ground. Good laugh, then I made my exit as The filth was expected. Thats gangsta chat or rap or whatever. :-))
Nice engine bay Steve. My rocker cover still has the scrapyard's "Sierra 1.8" writing in white paint pen. A classy touch.
It wouldn't make it to Brighton, I went to Newquay in it, never again. 40miles each way max. :-)))
