Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Found a problem with this V8, 16 valves to grind in, 16 rockers to grind and polish, 16 ports to clean up 8 pistols to weigh and balance, plus rods to polish and balance. I'll be here for days! Fingers are rubbed raw and I've only stripped it all and acid cleaned it all. The garage smells great :-)))

I hope so, 20 minute run, 2 stop starts, and it came on every time:-) however, like everything comes in threes, carb was naff, cable connections were naff, just pulled up the drive, jumped out, crunch! Just stepped on my timing light, who left that there? It doesn't flash now :-((

Does that mean that you can keep the battery in the boot then Steve?

My Legerra has a Pinto and it is always reluctant to start (maybe it remembers how I drive it) but my Rickman Ranger starts straight away every time. I wish I understood why they are so different.

Just changed the earth lead, one of three on the car. Engine, gearbox, battery to chassis. They were pretty corroded, retapped holes big dollop of Vaseline and remade with brass bolts, starts before I turn the key now. Fingers and eyes crossed, plus a few other parts, jobs sorted. Hopefully that's it. Noticed headlights and tail lights seem brighter too. Charging at 14 volts at the moment, I got the Motorhome battery in it, 760 amps cranking power, don't need the engine :-)

You got a multimeter Steve? whats the resistance end to end on the cables as with battery cable it should be minimal even over ten feet or so. Hook the meter up and then wiggle the cable to see if it changes.

Stuck the battery up front again and its perfect, so it must be these long leads. Ripping them all out this aftie and will test. Brand spanking new electronic dizzy. Plugs seem a bit cold though, but I'll chase this lead thing first. Gallon of unleaded standing by and a look at the insurance policy else :-))

Sierra down again! No its Not, oh yes it is ! Bloody starting trouble again, today while at the hillbillies, then it went OK again. So time for some serious head scratching while I finish off some home made buns! Bound to get there in the end, young Billy Wizz reckons I got to much 'pression, cant turn it over. Good news is that when it runs, no more flat spot. Now if I can only get it to run :-))

i feel you pain steve. my tank is off loads of crap in the bottom. looks like i made the mistake of leaving the filter on the bottom of the pick up pipe. in the tank. so thats where it blocks. remove it and the pre pump filter catches it, and is much easier to change than dropping the tank all the time. and now its raining

all the bits I have renewed James, got a good squirt from the pump. Hillbilly is coming over in a moment to throw his two pennies at it :-))

The accelerator pump is working okay, is it? that could give a flat spot initially, which would coincide with low revs at the traffic lights grand prix.
