So, MOT sorted by the skin of its teeth, loads to do before tomorrow morning, panic has set it due to a little mishap with the pedal box...
How many of you fitted metal spreader plates between the pedal box and the bulkhead? Here is something for those of you with pinto engines to think about.
I didn't see this coming 8 years ago when I re built it... The holes are supposed to be there... the crack around the edge is not.
Seems the proximity to the manifold has weakened the fibreglass of the tub a little
Well a lot actually :)
A metal spreader plate on the inside would have eased the load on the area and this may not have been quite so severe. This is going to be a fun evening..

when i can get my Legerra in the garage i plan to sort the roof to screen joint......mine leaks both with the hard top and soft top.
as i have said before it will get an arrangement like the Quantums.....
So, where to start.
Missed a huge chunk of this year buying the shop and settling in. Today was the first small engineering job done on the legerra since April.
Many moons ago I fitted a small 'bee sting' ariel to the centre of the windscreen frame, mainly to get radio and traffic reports on the way into work and back.
All good although radio reception is sketchy in some areas (like my driveway). Now as the car isn't being used as much it lives down the drive and I decided to get a cover for it. The nice little ariel had to go.
In one of the boxes in the shop was a screen pillar ariel similar to the ones used on old 80's toyota corollas so a small hole has been made in the pillar and filled with this...
I've taken the chance to polish out the frame a bit as it was badly oxidised and filled the drivers seat and carpet with fibre filings again...Now all I need to do is fill the 6mm hole in the frame and connect it up after removing the old cable.
Seems it also doubles up as a wiper stop at speed too. Standing still my wipers don't even reach the edge of the glass, at 70 it flicked over the sealant and just onto the fibreglass... not any more :)
Well done good news
nice one ade. we have to keep plugging away at these duttons :-)
Today another milestone was reached in the life of CMV. 9th MOT passed with one 'fix that when you get home...'
I do seem to be developing an oil leak though as parts of the underneath are a bit slippery... Time to get it up on ramps and jet wash it I think.
A few miles short of 47000 and nearly 9 years back on the road I've really grown to like what it's evolved into. Sure it has faults but they are minor in the grand scheme of things. All being well she'll be lurking in the background at Stoneleigh probably on the Sunday. Might do a reversal of last year and do Leggie Sunday, Sierra Monday... providing the parts arrive in time to make Sierra workable again.
Make that LIME green, peppermint is too silver and very much a 'saloon car' colour.
Got to be honest and say I really like that orange but I also like the imperial blue they painted the one Steve Kerry has. Maybe I should do mine in the ST peppermint green instead of BRG?
:-)
I used a pair of mole grips on the thread of the stupidly long stud and a 19mm spanner to get the spacer nuts undone. Then had to slice off the top 15mm to get the stud out without breaking the hubs/discs down. Luckily I had 8 metric 'short' studs to replace them with, spacers are 20mm hubcentric steel ones and are now refitted properly. The hubs however will need further work before I take it any great distance.
I have come to the conclusion that the long studs were made out of shit steel as they are well and truly smooth, bolt on spacers from now on...
yes ade get this sierra done. and im going to get a red one lol. (im not kidding) im collecting duttons :-)
