the red line is the brake pipe route from master cylinder to the rear brake cylinder

Oh dear whoops,  so i assume your going to make a new pipe and re route it away from any possible obstructions . i assume you didnt look under the car first to check for pipe runs, or was the pipe hidden from view  in bodywork?

the brake pipe is sandwiched in between the fibre glass tub and the outer alloy panel. i knew the brake pipes ran on the drivers side ....but did not expect them to route thier way into a cavity

That looks like a very strange route, I'm not surprised that you didn't expect it to be there. It is one of the hazards of kit cars that you just don't know what previous owners will have done. And some people have no idea that they have no idea!

not the brightest routing but better than my first dutton where the pipe just ran along the inside of the body...on top of the carpet in places.

I am not criticising your car here, but your headlights legally they only need to be a minimum of 500mm from the centre of the light to the road surface. you can mount the lights low enough to be below the bonnet line. i feel it would vastly improve the look of the car giving it a much lower sleeker apearance.

It is what i will be doing with my next S1......(all my bonnets are in need of a lot of repairs, so nose cone and i think clamshells will be the name of the game)

i cannot decide to go twin headlights (again for me) or perhaps the square headlights found on some heavy plant. (JCB, Case....etc.)

Yes agree , the lights are too high.

Intend to drop them down and ideally rectangular ones would look better.

Cheers

Ps : now whre did i put that brake tube flaring tool

A little bit of progress, drilled out a few pop rivets to separate the metal sheet from the fibre glass tub and fished out the knackered brake pipe. I was thinking it was going to be a huge job but i think it will be a little easier than i first expected. Looking to join the pipes using a joiner, i might replace the whole pipe, see what it comes out like and as long as it’s safe then i will be happy.

Ordered the large sheet of 3 mm checker plate (120 cm x 60 cm) to act as a floor,   i can bolt the harness eyebolts through. Having looked at pictures of other chassis , it appears that my seats should be about a foot further forward , this would enable the seat to line up with a cross member that has 4 nuts welded to it. However i have seat pads not actual seats, so maybe the chassis and the tub are not from the same car. Anyway i have a solution and hopefully will get it sorted quickly.

Its pleasing that when you leave your Dutton standing for a week and it starts first time, it’s good to have a garage.

I will attach some pictures

Neil
