I checked all the wires onto the coil. I can find no problems. Is there a way to put temporary wires from the battery to the coil to check if the problem is actually the coil wires or the coil itself?

No luck. I ran a wire from the + side of the battery to the + side of the coil. The wire sparked when I put it on the coil. Cranking gave no spark from the coil wire and no sign of any pistons firing.

Thanks for the info Graham. The points were open when I connected the battery wire. After I tried getting a spark from the coil wire I tried starting the engine. I then tried to get a spark from the coil wire with the points closed. No spark. The wire to the distributor appears to be just fine.

Do you think this ebay coil and points will work on my Phaeton with the 1974 Hillman Hunter engine? My car has the original Lucas distributor and coil.

I have fitted two of these now , one in a pinto OHC and another in Crossflow OHV. Easy to fit can use standard coil and makes a massive difference. Best £30 i ever spent as car starts 1st time. Neil

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered the Power Spark coil and electronic ignition. It will probably take some time to get them from the U.K. The last few months it was running the engine was missing quite a bit so I'm hoping the new points will help cure that problem. Do all phaetons use the same disk brake pads.? Once I get the girl running that's going to be my next project. Since I am in Florida where can I get the pads out of the U.K.? The old girl has had a lot of problems in the last year and it looks like the brake pads are pretty much worn out.
