the top trailing arm bracket is broke......

the diff is sloping back a little (looking up) so that will need sorting.......

As you can see there isn't a lot of bracing in an S1 chassis, that will be sorted.

One thing I do need is a clutch pedal from a triumph pedal box....if anyone has one lying about.

I got an early finish from work for a change and went to my local steel stock holders......... they no longer stock 1/2" square tubing, but they did have 5/8" tube so i bought 3 lengths of it...6 M each, cut into 2 M lengths total 18 M. total cost £29.00. 

before i put it into the car i have weighed it all....... 10 KG. not too bad.

all i have to do is temporarily fit the axles, and work out where the transmission tunnel needs to be and away i go.....

Offered up the rear axle to start on working on the car tomorrow.....

the 5 link is first and then the cockpit framing...

well.....i got the 5th link made and the chassis brackets made all lined up and tacked in place and removed my G clamp.....and my Mig welder packed in, wire feed.......I could try the TIG but that will be a steep learning curve on vertical surfaces. The wife wants a new bathroom so i dont think she will be happy if i get a new Mig anytime soon.

going to have a look today, i really dont want to buy a new Mig just now....

I was kind of hoping that, i have also been looking at if "spares " would be available, i think that any motor feed will work so long as its variable....

Good work Dave. Question what suspension struts/springs using as fancy getting a cheap set for setting car up then get a made to measure set once finished.

A guy I know used 2x2 wood, drilled at the right places, set his car up to that, made and welded all the brackets, when the dampers etc. arrived he just bolted them in. He done the same with the engine mounts, no problems what so ever, even wheeled it around his garage like it. Cheap and easy to alter.

That's what I've got on the front at moment Stephen. It will do of course but for a few quid in grand scheme of things I thought might be best. So if any one got a cheapo set knocking about message me. Thanks all.

well i stripped down the Mig welder, the fuses were fine, but a check of the PCB showed that two solder joints looked dry..i got my soldering gun out and reapplied the solder bunged it all back together and gave it a try.

It works!

so i did a little to my car, not much but the welder was out of action for a while so nothing was prepared.

the axle bracket is only tacked onto the tube just now, it may need adjustment when i remove the opposite side to realign that one.

the Drivers side top trailing arm mount is.....errr crap. and its also badly sited. the whole thing will be coming off and  be redone.

 

Early finish for a change (still done 9 hours though.......) so a little more done to the S1...

The trailing arms are now in situ just needing fully welding, they are parallel longitudinally and vertically......I am hoping they work well, just the Panhard rod to make. 

The rear chassis rails do kick up a fair bit and i wonder if altering them will lower the boot section and improve the "lines" of the car..

The boot section in place to work out the position of the bracing to the rear of the cockpit.....

its progressing very nicely.

Well a day off on account of the dentist trip yesterday (not allowed to drive for 24 hrs) so i got busy with the welder.......

most of the new transmission tunnel is in.

and....

as you can see the wider gear box gives a slightly different tunnel shape from the Green S1 but its not that different. as it happens i may have to adjust the front engine mount, but again that's not a problem it just needs a slightly longer mount on the engine side and shorter on the chassis side.
