If you care to engage YOUR brain and re read the thread please point out where I have accused you of anything
I might accuse you of being paranoid ?
I started this thread so if anyone knew anything about the car ( ie past owners, club members who have felt with the car) and could shed some light on what is a VERY complicated and unusual situation
I'm no expert but have friends an family who have been dealing in insurance and salvage for the best part of 30 years and know things aren't as cut an dried as some experts would make out
The insurance company CANNOT make your car a cat a or b unless you agree (or cat c or d for that matter)
When you send the v5 you relinquish ownership an it becomes their car and they scrap it
They cant cat A or B a car while you own it,its still your property
They can asses your car and will say what cat it will be once it goes through the insurance system
You can stop the insurance claim at any point and retain ownership of your car
FACT
You have a prang an ring insurance company
They come out, asses your car an class it as cat A right off
They will then offer you say £1000 and you know you have spent £4000 on it (this can happen more than you think and is why to be safe you should go for "agreed value" policy an not just the cheapest you can find)
If you tell the insurance company to get lost and you will repair the car yourself then you retain the car even thou it has been assessed as cat A
That is just one way it can happen, there are others

If it was written off in '01 then thats before a Cat A had to be destroyed. It could still be salvaged and I guess the owner bought it of the insurance company to repair. txt checker shows it as having been written off but that means nothing as a Cat D is written off then sold by the insurance company as salvage/repairable. Sounds to me like the person selling is trying the be straight about the car but the usual paranoia on this site and elsewhere results in 2+2+137 !

lol   no its 136

Well that's an interesting car !
The footwell/pedal box don't exist any more ! Wondered why in the pics the steering wheel.was so far back
The pedals are just under the bottom of the dash you would be driving with your knees round your ears
It isn't five linked
Half of the tub is Ali an not the best
Well it goes through the mot system with no markers !
