ageing fuel tanks

hi chaps. iv been talking to a stainess/ally welder about getting a price for a alloy fuel tank. i was thinking this would benefit us all in the future, so im giving him the size for a mk1 escort estate tank as thats what most of us have . 

however i dont see the point of having the mk1 escort sender unit in the tanks as they are expensive too. i was wondering on your views on this.

Standard focus or mondeo fuel pump combined sender units....thus fuel injection up grades are easy.....
Failing that universal fuel senders off eBay are a few quid..

cheers. hopeing to get them made as cheep as poss so ill look at the universal fuel sender. will that work with our old fuel gauges ?

Our Phaeton s3 uses a compete standard Fiesta/Puma tank, complete with its in-tank fuel injection pump and sender. These are available in either steel or plastic and mount quite nicely under the boot floor.

I have a spare Fiesta tank. I was going to use it but put an additional crossmember in the rear and now the Fiesta tank won't fit. I am now using a Smart car tank, only issue is the neck and tank are one piece. I can measure the Fiesta tank if your interested, it will be cheap!

It is a plastic Fiesta tank. MK6 Fiesta 1.4, I think.

Brian, I will photograph it tomorrow (unless I can find a photo lying around). I have the Fiesta tank, the mounting straps for below the tank and a sender / pump from a Focus ST170 - which is the correct diameter but would need shortening slightly.

Fiesta tank

I have one of these in my shed going spare its as new...... no fuel pump in it but clean and good to go.

i bought it for the S1.... but it just wouldn't fit. they do apparent;y fit under the S3/4's and Melos i believe.
