NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO its meant to be a sports car not a tractor :-))))
The torque is low down, you need to be able to use that without the rear wheels breaking away also diesel engines respond more slowly compared to petrol engines. Diesels don't take kindly to lightened engine internals so accelleration through the gears is much slower not what you'd call sporty.
Don't think the economy is anything other than the most feable of excuses. If you can't afford to put petrol in it you can't afford what is after all a hobby vehicle. Its been done before but its nottaken off. Try it and see but you'll be putting the Pinto back in. oh andthe Desiesel won't be any lighter than the Pinto...
well a very early finish today so some progress.....the hand brake on my car is proving to be a pain as it routes round the shocker. I thought about swapping the back plates and having the handbrake in front of the axle......except that the body tub is in-line with it and its even worse.
so my solution is as follows, i had some coat hangers made from pressed steel that formed perfect "U" channels. so they were welded to some flat bar and it was also shaped to fit round the shocker bottoms. here is what i made....
I also thought you would like to see the under bonnet picture...looking good i think.
I have also rerouted my top water hose...
also i have fun the engine up to temperature and looked for leaks, there is 27 jubilee clips on my cooling system so the potential for leaks is huge. the car only had one....under the dash, the heater. if its the matrix its going to be a real problem for me but i think not. Also the heater seems to work very well so here's hoping.
With that sort of torque, should be good in a ploughing contest. Go on admit it you just like the smell of burning Derv in the morning.
dont forget dave,s a ,trucker,, and most truckers that have a diesel car at home. seem to have leaky tanks on thier trucks,,(wink,,,wink,,,)
Dave, have you thought of using the 1.9 TD XUD engine from the PSA group (Pug / Citroen)? They are start at 90 bhp. Performance diesel is the future. My wife has a 10 year old Golf GT TDI and it is fun to drive. Torque is fun
"Golf GT TDI and it is fun to drive".
PMSL LOL Get real if you think thats fun to drive you've obviously not had much to drive. Diesel and False wheel drive.........
I am actually quite a fan of this engine (the XUD PSA diesel engine) having rebuilt one and worked on dozens of them, i even bought a car from someone who had removed the fuel pump to get the alternator out!!? and couldn't get it running again (£50) it took a day to sort the various problems and re-time the pump it ran as sweet as a nut until it got to about 300,000 miles and went bang up in the lakes one spring a week after its MOT (cracked the head and blew loads of coolant out the exhaust....) the car was the 1700cc engine and was no slouch. Only car i have ever scrapped with a full MOT.
Finding a gearbox or adaptor would be the problem.
just as a note to this thread on engines i found this....
thinkin about whats on that link the peugoet 2.3 diesel was fitted in some sierra,s and granada,s seem to remember they bolted up to a ford box ,,,,,,
audi 1.8td engine sat in the garage up at ,,wonderland,,,
