Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

some pics of the rebuild process,

the top trailing arm bracket is broke......

the diff is sloping back a little (looking up) so that will need sorting.......

As you can see there isn't a lot of bracing in an S1 chassis, that will be sorted.

Geometry check today......
castor as last year at about 8 degrees.
camber 0.6 and 1.2 negative ( fine tuning with shims needed)
Tracking fine adjusted to 0.5mm toe in.
a result is the rear axle is now 0.05 degrees to the n/s from 0.5 ......
Look what i am saying in laymans is well.......the car is straighter now than before the accident. so i am well made up!

well i have a Zetec engine from a Mondeo in my garage....i think its the 125hp engine as it goes quite well.....

at the moment i dont know if i am using the ford engine management or an aftermarket one, something like Megasquirt. not cheap but a lot less hassle overall.

No chance that you'd go for bike carbs? that way when you've worked out how to make them work you can explain it to me! Then you'd only have the spark timing to worry about. I might be a software engineer but I am not a fan of electronics in the engine bay because when it fails you are completely stuffed. But I don't think you are a fan of bike carbs, are you Dave?

Looking into it as well but quotes for carbs are about the same as new EFI.

the ECU pin out was exactly what i was looking for thanks......

the issue for me and the Ford ECU is that the car has a factory alarm which shares a lot of the same colour wires.....and i don't want/need a full alarm system. i am hoping the alarm deals with car security and the ECU just deals with engine management and the immobiliser. if so then, its no sweat and in it goes......

that is the way it looks so i am hopeful.

The alarm is just for the car security on zetec engined Mondeo's its actually fitted by the dealer not on the line. Only later cars with can bus wiring have them built in.

Immob is easily triggered as you need to keep certain parts of the car (eg on transits the immob looks for things like the left hand headlight pod etc) you wont know the PATs dmbflg has triggered until its too late then it requires a reset at Dunton. You need to keep the donor cars VIN number or they'll not reset it.

How many pins does the ECU have 60 or 104?

104 pins.

been doing loads of research on the old net and found quite a bit about the ford ECU and how to cut away the unwanted wires, so once i have done it i will post a wiring diagram on what fuses and relays are needed and which wires for future use.since mine uses the PATS system i will hopefully describe how to make use of it.

so i need a type 9 box, i have a fiat/lancia 5 speed box that could be swapped.....?

I've also be thinking of using a standard Ford ECU. As far as I know it's not possible to use one with PATS unless you also have the matching key and key detector coil from the original steering column switch - unless of course you have found another way. However it doesn't seem that hard to use as long as you have those parts (tape the key/coil together somewhere under the dash or whatever).

The gearbox isn't involved in all of that though
