What do we all think of the CVH? Keeps crossing my mind about fitting one as I know of a decent XR2 1.6 lump not doing anything. Would be an easy route as I could retain the 4 speed box and prop and there is not much in the way of electrics to worry about. Lighter than a pinto and about 95bhp standard? I wanted a bit more power but they can be tuned relatively cheaply....

If I had more money to play with i'd go for the Vaux redtop any day of the week. Used to have a stripped Astra GTE 16v and it was a fantastic engine

You can use a Manta gearbox but they're a bit thin on the ground. Omega/Carlton box bolts up too but too big!

I am tempted! I did consider the newer Ecotec as they are more easily available and cheaper but i've had a couple before and although smoother they just feel flat in comparison

Funnily I have considered the x16xe? out of the mk4 astra as they are light easily tuned and a lot cheaper than a red top!

Stephen, the 2.5 Omega manual box is almost the same as the 3.0 manual only more plentyful, about £175 on ebay
