Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Having just finished a complete renovation job on all glassfibre bodywork of my S1 including a fair bit of reinforcement of the original bonnet, (with some subtle little modifications), all finished with a fresh respray.  I now turn my thoughts to the mechanics of the beast, hence my enquiry,

Can I drop the height of the steering rack down (approx 65mm) to eliminate the bump steer that are common on our Phaetons, or am I heading for a lot of problems if I do this ?   Your comments/advice would be most appreciated.     Cheers,

the rack wants to be parallel to the bottom wish bone the inner pivot point of the steering/track arm wants to swivel in line with the line drawn through the top and bottom wishbone chassis mounts. on early S1's and B+'s the rack mount was wrong and caused bump steer, and needed moving to improve things. Yours may need moving.

Note: S1's and B+'s all seem to be made with the steering / suspension geometry all over the place, camber wants to be about 1 degree -ve, castor wants to be 5-8 degrees -ve you will be lucky if it is close to either of those measurements on just one side of the car and it is likely to be different either side. I have heard of some early cars being about spot on, they seem to be the rare ones.

Thanks for that Dave,  will now get the measuring stick out and see what's needed
