Yeah I forgot he has the essex engine. ....a bit of torque in them engines......my suggestions should still improve things though.

Other than springs I've done those bits thanks Dave. The problem is the v6 is fair too torquee ( if that's even a word). 175 ftlbs. I don't mind to be fair as puts a massive grin on my face and looks kinda cool. If the driving position was better I could "showboat" more but it's a real pig. S2 project has soooooo much more space.

John, your S1 has a V6 doesn't it? You probably need to take out half of the spark plugs in the wet if you want to keep grip! my Legerra is heavier and only has a 2litre but I have to be careful with the loud pedal to keep it pointing in the right direction. That's with new 185 tyres.

My s1 did the same.....however it was easily cured.
The tyre pressures need to be 18 psi!
Rear springs are too stiff (if still have the original hillman imp springs at 190 lb/in. You want something like 150 lb.
Make sure your tyres are not old and hard and cracking they wont grip.
Do all of that and it will vastly improve.

My s1 spins and slides all the time. When the s2 finished it may be a dog handling pig to drive or a total pleasure. Only time will tell.

Very wise.....I did drive mine a few years ago in all that snow....it was surprisingly good although the front spoiler acted a bit like a snow Plough some days. :-)

I know the manual suggests 205 tyres but personal experience with my various cars shows that they would be too wide and wet grip will likely suffer.

I'm no expert on tyres offsets etc but for £11.49 I couldn't resist. Currently 195 45 15's on there but can get euro spec treys right down to 195 30 15. Give it go, what's worst that can happen. Lol
