Hi Dave, compare notes tomorrow, when the cave is open :-)

Steve, just measured the Zetec pressure plate, that is 40mm from flywheel to fingers. Think in addition to this the flywheel may be fatter and spaced off the block further. More measuring required

On my 2.0 Capri Pinto engine with a brand new clutch and pressure plate all bolted up, I have 48mm. from flywheel to the fingers on the pressure plate. On the box it says all Capri OHC engines ?

Just had a thought.  I have a 1.8 Zetec complete with clutch sat in the garage.  If I measure the thickness of the pressure plate on that engine and compare it to the Pinto pressure plate.  The difference of thickness is what I need to cut off the threaded projection behind the clutch pivot point.

Steve, with no clutch (no plates) fitted it bolts up fine.  I have been reading some info about fitting Type 9 to Zetecs and they say the Pinto pressure plate is thicker than the Zetec.  The RX8 conversion is sold as universal for Crossflow, Pinto and Zetec.  If when you fit a Type 9 to a Zetec and use Zetec pressure plate you have to use a fatter release bearing as the Zetec pressure plate is thinner, than the Pinto pressure plate.   Then logic must prevail that with Pinto pressure plate being thicker, when RX8 gearbox to different engines then pressure plates will be thicker or thinner. I am guessing with RX8 gearbox to Zetec with Zetec pressure plate there is no issue.   RX8 gearbox to Pinto with it's thicker pressure plate must bring the release bearing too close.  The fat bearing people use for the Type is 1.6 Capri OHC, so I guess that has a thin pressure plate???  Anybody got a 1.6 Capri Pinto pressure plate they can measure the depth

just read this bit:  You need a 2.0 clutch which used with type9 , "1" / 23 spline .. Rx8 bearing no space as slave cylinder adjuster comes with kit , it takes out free travel on bar ... P9cyo "   interesting comment about the bearing and cylinder.

Hi Dave, without seeing it I cant really help. Have you tried it with no thrust bearing or arm etc. Or is the whole clutch assembly physically to big ?

Daryl, Prior to the first trial fitting, I removed the friction plate and just refitted the pressure plate with no friction plate.  My logic being it would be quicker and easier to fit the gearbox if I didn't need to line up the splines and only had to line up the spigot.  In essence the pressure plate appears too deep (from flywheel to top clutch fingers).  I tried two pressure plates - 1.6 Transit Pinto and 2.0 Cortina, both appear too deep.

Starter fitted, wired up and it turns over. That just leaves the clutch to sort
