Rebuilding Dorrie

Today I finally made it, fetching Dorrie from the container to the place where I can work on her. A full rebuild is planned as she is currently in bits, only partly restored. Progress will be rather slow, since it will mainly be evenings or weekends I can work on her for a couple of hours.

What did already happen?

Ade already helped me out with a complete Phaeton shell, which I was able to collect on the same weekend as the AGM and Stoneleigh were. So one day Dorrie will wear…

Rebuild Dorie: Engine: Carburator

The original carb and the original inlet manifold are available. But the vendor also included Weber 40 DCOE carbs. When I checked the DOC ning last week I read a entry Glenn (I suppose), where it was said that two DCOE Weber can not be fitted to the Kent in the Dutton since they collide with the master brake cylinder. I couldn't find the thread any more (why?). Is that true? Do any work arounds exist?

Rebuild Dorie: Engine: Valve springs

I read that improvements on the Kent need enhanced valve springs. Here I got a picture of the springs. Can one tell from the look if those will work? Or how I can find out if the proper springs are used?

Rebuild Dorie: Engine: Head

I measured the inlet and outlet with a calliper rule. So the (rather roughly measured) sizes are

Inlet      39.75 mm

Exhaust 33.7 mm

This comes close to the standard stage 2 head measures (inlet: 39.5 mm, exhaust: 34 mm). So I suppose the measures are a stage 2 head (or near it). What set me up a little is, that the inlet valves look kind of different. Here is an overall view…

Rebuild Dorie: Engine: Pistons

Here is a top view on the cylinders:

As promissed by the vendor, the motor is already overhauled. The cylinders look properly grinded and the cylinders fit perfectly. The vendor told me that the 1300 pistons are used to higher the compression ratio. From the imprint on the pistons I reckon that the bore is also enlarged:

The inprint says:…

Rebuild Dorie: Engine

The first thing I tried to occupy is the engine. It is a modified 1600 Ford Kent 711M.

Last Saturday I took of the head to take a look at the cylinders and pistons. There will be a blog entry for each of the parts.

Rebuild Dorie: Getting started

Hey again everybody,

I'm finally getting started on rebuilding my old lady, Dorie. This blog is intended to summarize the rebuild of Dorie for your interest and for the interest of further rebuilds. I try to fill it with a as much information as possible.

At first, I few words on me: I just finished my Bachelor thesis and continue with the masters degree with further 2 years of education. Since the subject is quite theoretical, I wanted a practical thing to get my hands on.…
