Dutton Kit Cars and their owners

Gearbox picked up tonight from Ade, and engine lift, so the jobs on. If I can score enough brownie points by doing the garden on Saturday I might get a playing out ticket so I can get the engine and box out and change the box put it all back together. Then MOT next week, and we're back on the road.

I love my Dutton.

Well job done, the Phaeton is back on the road, all the jobs are also sorted, managed to weld up the exhaust and fit the stainles end pipe i bought at Stoneleigh, 4" exit now that should put the wind up the Cossie boy's.
Struggled a bit with the gear lever, I didn't realise ther are at least 3 different thread sizes I have 2 here and the new box is the third, luckily I had a spare lever off the type 3 box. So to work with a file, I made it a very tight interference fit, then drilled 2 holes front and back fitted a couple of self tappers with washers holding everything in place.
Took it her round the block for a quick run, and everything was really quiet, no grinding noise. it ran smoothly just need the MOT booking tomorrow, and we're back. BIG THANKS to Adrian for the box and new clutch.

Well the gearbox is in, the engine is back in and running, but what a pig of a job.
Engine is no problem to take out, but who would design a car that as the gearbox mounting bolts on top of the chassis, where you can't get a spanner in, and when you do get a racket on it moves 1 clip at a time. It took just over an hour to remove 4 nuts, and an hour to put them back again.
Just got to put the gear lever back in, and re-fit the bonnet. Going to get the exaust welded tomorrow, quick nip round to Steve K's he's got my MIG. The heat sheild as cracked so clips as it get hot, it's another job i keep meaning to do.
Then MOT next week, and fingers crossed we are back on the road in time for Tatton park.

I have started the engine removal, tried to ge the gearbox out without removing the engine, but there's a cross member behind the gearbox mounting which stop you droping the tail of the box. So engines coming out.
Everything is ready to lift, but decided to leave it in untill tomorrow, as having no garage means nowhere to store the engine and lift..
